Now that I think of it, any full body, full-frontal portrait meets the challenge, as it shows only half of that person (the back is invisible) :-)

Unless you have a holographic lighting set up (lasers, beam-splitters, etc.), any single 2-D picture shows only half of whatever 3-D object you shoot.

However, I expect a cascade of DNMC checkboxes being checked-off for anyone who follows your advice, regardless of the accuracy of your observation ...

You really do like stirring up the pot.

1/3 is 1/2 of something, right? It's half of 2/3.

Anyway, would it be half by volume of half by weight?

Ah, I really ought to apologize :-) I think it's a fun challenge, I just enjoy these riffs on it. And I'm not the only one, I see :-)

Do you realize how hard it is to cleanly cut a lady bug in half? Maybe DrAchoo can help. ;-)

[/serious] So, if I take a clasic portrait, say, and show only the front half of the model's head (i.e. can't see the back of the head) does that meet the challenge? Come to think of it, in nealy every photo, you can see only half the subject. Sounds like a free study to me! [serious]

I predict this challenge will have 439 entries :) and winner will get 7.9 range

how would a sunset /sunrise be cut in half?

You could always close one eye. That should do it.

You could have half the sun showing at the right or left margin, or you could time it so that the solar disk appears just halfway above the horizon.

all-too-common? actually i have'nt been seeing too many half-face-portraits on dpc yet...

Just last week's Blue Ribbon entry was such an entry:

what about this, half a beer bottle?

So if your subject is a person, then you want to shoot say from the waiste up - but then 1/2 of a person becomes your subject so you want to shoot 1/2 of that, but then that becomes the subject.... Ohhhh the humanity.

I agree with Bear. You only see half of a person all the time. Just like the sun you see the front side instead of the back on a giving day. Samething on a mountain and etc.

This challenge is another Free study!

Of all the winners I've seen (and even non-winners), that one of the candy on the lips is the first one that I can say I really didn't like for some reason. I was so glad to see it get taken off the first page finally. I'd rather read through another thread on trolls and people complaining about getting 1's on their images than have to look at that much more. Now I'm going to see it in this thread every time I check in to see what half baked sceams people are coming up with. Oh well, I was only half paying attention anyway.

:D

The left or right rump does meet the challenge criteria.

I think the most easily grasped half is one that is visually, a symetrical half. Something that can be seen as being divided into 2-Equal pieces or sections.

Such as a "Half-off" sale, or here is my better half, or I'm halfway there.
