Very hard to vote (IMO) - loads of pictures that are borderline still life and some that don't even come close. A lot of cases where the movement seems to have taken priority over the still life. Others where the movement is more implied than visible. I think there was that word 'separate' that might be a problem too.

Plenty of great pictures and great ideas though - I'll just have to put my thinking hat on before I start voting :)

I agree with raish. I just got done with my initial voting and many seemed to miss the mark. However, there are a couple of special images.

here we go...self DQ sounds very tempting but I won't. I like the shot, maybe it's just not suitable for the challenge.

I'm heading that way too but please try to think about the positive things and that is that YOU like the shot. I never really worry about what voters think because this is just a way to see how other people like your work within a given set of rules, don't really affect your skill. The reason I shoot is to please myself initially.

I didn't enter a shot that I should have. I feared the dnmc croud would rip it up so I chose not to enter it and now think maybe I should've. It was a carasel with wide angle and all but the carasel was still. Since it was the main subject which was in motion I figured it would get blasted. It was still a really cool shot though.

Yeapppp... I like my shot, is a good portfolio stuff, not for challenge, but this is a good score anyway :)

yeah, agreeing with raish and bassbone A still life is a collection of inanimate objects. Not seeing how about 1/3 of this stuff even got in the challenge. I knew it was going to be tough, but I'm seriously disappointed. Gave one 10, three 8's, a 7 or two and the rest, way below that. I hate voting so low, but.......

Oh I'm not worried. I really like my shot but it's just a little far fetched for this challenge. So I think the most low votes will be because of the DNMC. Plus the fact that speedvoters will vote it down straight away because they're not taking the time to really look at the photo.

I had one that the motion wasn't showing so I didn't enter mine either.
I'm wondering the same thing.

I agree that still lifes should be a collection of inanimate object, however, with the added element of something moving, the moving portion should be given some leeway, IMO. But that's just me! ;-)

I don't know what's wrong with me lately. I can't seem to get above a 5. I'm sad. I even like my entry.

I think the 'definition' of a still life is already broadened a great deal by being photographic rather than classical art - we've come a fair way since mandatory fruit baskets, although the basic idea of the composition of the subject being the composition of the photograph is maybe still there. Ideally, both the still bit and the moving bit should contribute to each other and to the whole (I'm thinking), so leeway has to be available to both of them. Of course, this doesn't make it any easier to vote - pretty much the opposite. Now, where was that thinking hat?

Oh - I'm on a 5.5

I put more work into this than many other shots, which was definitely worth it just for the experience thinking about how to set it up. Then I entered and I realized it had a major flaw.

But so far it seems to be doing just fine. :) Maybe this one will put my longterm average over 5.6.

This was a quick shot, that I don't really like all that much but entered anyway just because. Of course its doing well:

Liked my Candy and Silhouettes shots a whole lot better, and both of those tanked -- Candy at 5.6 and Silhouettes is down in the 5.teen range. Just goes to show there's no accounting for taste! ;>P
