Hi,

I'm in process of building an upgrade to my old machine & have no idea whether photoshop benefits from a higher end video card or not (i.e. with 3D rendering 512RAM etc.

Any ideas on that one?

Thanks

Photoshop isn't video card dependent. It will run just as well on almost any graphics card.

It is however, very dependent on RAM and likes a fast processor.

If you are building this machine specifically for photo editing, spend the extra money on RAM. As much as possible.

Thanks for that--kind of what I suspected.
Leaves more then for RAM :-)

It should require a Mac!

Just kidding folks, put your Windows flaming torches down! ;-)

I use the Radeon X1900 GT with dual DVI outputs as my video Card.
I have an Intel Core 2 CPU (6400 @ 2.13GHz) with 2 GB of Ram.

I have no problem using CS3, Photomatrix Pro, and Raw Essentials at the same time. No lag in video.

All the bottlenecks for photoshop are in memory access.

So fastest RAM you can get, as much as your particular OS of choice will let photoshop use. A fastish processor will help, but it is really just memory limited on any kind of modern system.

Fast harddrives will also help for scratch/ swap space.

Graphics card doesn't matter much at all, it doesn't accelerate photoshop
