After 5 problems with a P1 camera, 3 (or 4) battery replacements, 2 new playstations, 1 tv and 5 telephones....
Now it is a Sony W30 camera with a jammed lens after five months of using it.
Their quality is incredibly sucky.

I soooooooooo have to agree with you!
I had bought a comprehensive audio-visual setup from them-TV, VCR, CD/Tape, the whole tied-in system and the components all died one by one, horribly, and after way tpoo short a time.
I also went through, well my kid did, three PS-2s in a year.
I will *NEVER* buy anything Sony again in my lifetime!

| Does that mean they make the sensors foe CANON or that canon makes them for NIKON? |

Sony is just a big POS. Everything is proprietarty (who else uses a Memory Stick?), their quality is crap, and they like sueing people for stupid things.
There was a small kiosk food stand many years ago at Harborplace in Baltimore. It was called 'Sony's'. It sold Philipine food. It was run by a Filipino woman named Sony Florintino (or something like that). She named the restaurant after herself. Sony Corporation sued her out of business. She couldn't afford the lawsuit. I know that the few time I ate there, I had no inclination that I was eating food provided by a giant Japanese electronics giant.
What a stupid company.

I have a Sony stereo system purchased in the early 90's - still works great!
A Sony Walkman from the 80's that took a lot of abuse and still works today (only use it now for the radio with little external speakers when the power goes out - but hey, it still works). :D
Two Sony camcorders (1 tape, 1 digital) - been very happy with both.
Recently pre-ordered the Sony DSLR A700, and can't wait for it to get here! :)
They're ok in my book.

I've had a Sony f828 it was fine
I had a Sony compact digital that went wrong after a few months, PS2 went wrong, repaired, went wrong, repaiered, went wrong, thrown away.
I went with Nikon, been great for years until Nikon UK screwed me around over a sensor (ironically made by Sony).
My wife (Japanese) hate's Sony and said if I ever get a Sony DSLR she will leave me, hahahaha
I got a Fuji S5, Images from that camera are wonderful (not a Sony sensor) I replaced my walk around camera with..... drum roll......Canon G9.
Sony are not so wonderful in Japan, they are a company that has a finger in every little pie going, Jack of all trades type company Master of Nothing.. They used to be a good solid Audio company but now they suck!
I still LOVE Nikon stuff but until they replace the Sony crap in their cameras I will steer clear. I think the D3 has Nikon electronics and not Sony but I believe Sony has a bit of something in everything.
Their memory cards suck and the card slots in the camera break so easy, always been a problem. |

I also have a Sony stereo bought in early 90s, that works great. In fact that gives me better sound quality with cassette then anything I have heard till today. (okey I have heard 3 - 4 systems that sounded better but all of them would cost a fortune to me).
I have sony r1, sony M2 and sony p72 , all work great no problems.
In fact R1 is the best thing I have ever could think in terms of camera.
Might end up with A700 now.
Sony is OK in my books too. |

| I've always had good luck with Sony. I've beaten my V3 right into the ground, and it still works great. |

| Don't forget political reasons, like the Rootkit fiasco... It will be a while until I touch a Sony product again. |

I also will never buy another Sony-branded product. I still have my PS2 but at least 5 other Sony devices died or developed problems way too early in their lives. The clincher was when my 35" Sony Trinitron that I bought in 2000 for $1000 had completely lost its picture by 2004 and would cost $300-500 to fix. The funny thing is, reliability aside, when you get down to the guts of it, Sony stuff is not even very good from a design perspective, but they cram lots of bells and whistles in for an attractive price so people automatically assume they're the best. I am always amused when people tell me they have a great surround-sound system and I can almost predict when they'll say it is Sony and Bose.
By the way, shouldn't this be in the Rants forum?

Likewise, I refuse to ever buy Sony again.
My stereo's laser reader went out of alignment after a year. Sony replaced it, and then every three months after that, I had to ship it back again, as the reader kept going back out of alignment. After the 3rd time, I gave up and bought a Panasonic - never had a single problem. And this was a stereo that sat on a shelf and never moved, so how it went out of alignment in the first place is beyond me.
Had a Diskman that died after 9 months, and a friend has a Cybershot that craps out like clockwork each year, with the same issues, which each time Sony claims to fix. Go figure.

It's not just Sony that sux these days, alot of stuff is made crappy. Anyone ever try Coby? Much worse than Sony. We went thru 4 dvd players last year, all different brands and all broke within 3 months. We just ended up buy a laptop to play our dvd's.
They just don't make 'em like they used to and that goes for everything.
Afterall there's no money in making a product that lasts! Keep the consumer buying and business is good.

My W30 is jammed too. :( Of course, it could be due to the fact that my 5 yo dropped it while it was on. :/
My S30 was a tough little critter though. I dropped it several times, banged it around, etc. If I could find it it would still be as good as it was when we first bought it 6 or so years ago (which isn't saying a lot)>
:)
