I LOVE YOUR CRAP, as you put it.....

Bear is clueless. It can be done several different ways. Cookies may not be the answer (I often get hungry at that time and eat mine anyway). Waiting for maintenance to finish before hitting the back button is a good suggestion I may have done that once. The problem is that I panic and fly into rage and bash the keyboard and hurl curse words at Langdon (who hopefully can't hear them). ;-)
On a related note, whenever you have to retype a moderately lengthy post for whatever reason, it is NEVER as good as the original one you lost. So much so that I often say screw it halfway through the rewrite and just go to bed (admittedly a positive side effect). Just so y'all know that you are only seeing 90% of the crap I try to post. Darn shame I think. :)

It actually occurs at 1am here - just when I am getting warmed up! :)

15 minutes, Ken. Type quickly. :-)
(It occurs at noon in Iraq, in case you were wondering.) |

next thing we know, langdon's gonna force us all to use our own text editor to compose our posts. to submit, please use the "browse for text file" button, and click Submit.
...and then we know who to THANK for this! :p |

Firefox (and maybe in conjunction with SessionSaver) appears to automatically saves the text typed in an edit field. If I accidentally click a link, I can go back and my text is there.
Heck, I can close the browser with a reply edit field open and when I reopen it, the text is there.
No other software needed. |

Yes, you must have the Magic Back Button as well. Long live FF. |

Ah sure, there's all sorts of ways WE can solve the problem on OUR side; I've never lost a post to this using Firefox. I was just addressing the request that the SITE code something to "solve" the problem, and I wasn't aware there's any way to do that if the site is down at the time.

Though the site could do it prior to going down. It would probably require some sort of AJAXy asynchronous connection, but it is certainly possible. (E.g., blogger and google mail both save drafts of posts/ mails as you go along, automatically)

bah. i guess i'll just have to use firefox or live with it. I'd probably be better off if DPC kicked me off for at least 8 hours anyway. |
