//dictionary.reference.com/search?q=insect
1a. Any of numerous usually small arthropod animals of the class Insecta, having an adult stage characterized by three pairs of legs and a body segmented into head, thorax, and abdomen and usually having two pairs of wings. Insects include the flies, crickets, mosquitoes, beetles, butterflies, and bees.
1b. Any of various similar arthropod animals, such as spiders, centipedes, or ticks. See Regional Note at lightning bug.
2. An insignificant or contemptible person.
Butterflies definitely are.
Spiders, which weren't even mentioned in the question but obviously really needed bringing up, are fair game as far as I'm concerned - this ain't an English language competition.
A photo of an ultra-literal voter would even qualify under definition 2 ; )

I'll let you off if you can stick a couple of extra legs on it ; )
That's a great shot (pbase wasn't working for me earlier) and he's prolly smaller than half the entries we'll get anyway!

In your case YES
....that's a cool frog. He does eat insects and if it's true "you are what you eat" then go for it. :-)
I won't vote it down.

Here's my spider shot for the week
Wolf Spider
I showed my bug guy this photo to ask what it was - he told me that the stuff on it's back (I thought was some sort of 'fur' or 'hair') was actually babies! EEEK! I can't believe I got so close... *shudder*

I thought spiders were insects so I'm glad I didn't enter this shot of a Black Widow spider. I had to get really close with my camera to it (about 2 inches) and was kinda worried he'd jump onto my hand and bite me!
Not that great a shot but kinda interesting anyway. This guy was found under my dog's dog house. Actual size about 1 1/2 inches across:
