I think that a challenge (any) with the additional rule that it may NOT be titled might be interesting and challenging

Sounds good to me. It makes me wonder when a title is inappropriate. I couldn't think of one for this for instance:

Some pictures just need to 'be' it seems. I've found that titling them can sometimes render too much of an angle on the shot or make it too sentimental.

Personally, I think most good photographs shouldn't need a title, they should tell the whole story. The title should be superfluous to the story the picture tells.

I agree and my point is that so many entries rely on the title to connect with the challenge.

Your 'tools' entry probably disproves that point. I doubt there are many people under 30 who'd even know what that slide rule was...

It varies from style of photography to style of photography though. Sports and reportage need titles and captions to give context. Advertising photography usually needs context as well. Arty stuff well - the current trend in the main stream art world seems to be all about the process and little about the final outcome sadly.
