Silly question maybe...

But I wondered if anyone could give me an idea how much more light I could expect from an Alienbee 800 (into umbrella) in comparison to a 580EX shot into the same umbrella.

Thanks

I don't think the 580EX wattsecond rating is available anywhere, so making the comparison won't be easy. I would take a stab and guess that the AB800 would produce at least 8x more light than the 580ex, if not more. Part of the difference between the 580 and any studio strobe is the size of the light source. Studio strobes are much larger. The output power is only part of the difference.

Thanks for your reply.

I don't need too much accuracy in the comparison, but something along the lines of whether the AB 800 would give like two stops more light (both shot off an umbrella), or something more dramatic.

Any ideas?

I found this link from google.... IF you believe the last response then it's @50ws - might be fine if you are just after an idea.
