I had a session yesterday with a 6 week old baby girl. Mommy and I were sooooo patient with this little one trying soooooo hard to get her to snuggle into a comfy spot and nap so we could do some arty shots - but baby had her own agenda and our needs did not fit in. She was very fussy. Our hour session was 2 1/2 hours and sweet and beautiful baby Sydnea cried throuh all of it - 80% of the time one of us was just holding her & trying to comfort her and nobody was shooting anything. At one point she cried herself into exhaustion and actuall slept - I'm not kidding - for like 2 minutes! I dropped her onto a sweet little stool and asked mom to keep a hand on her while I grabbed another backdrop (thinking she'd sleep for a bit) - but she started to stir again so I grabbed the camera and shot all I could get. There were a few other moments when baby was semi-still and allowed me to get a few shots, but overall I went to bed very disappointed in the session and afraid the Mommy would regret having bothered.
This morning I got up and started editing and was AMAZED at what a little time in PS could do to some very hasty shots. After a few hours of processing I was able to give Mommy a very nice gallery of her new babe. But this one..... the moment on the stool..... was so worth everything!!!!
This:
So I got this:

Thank god for little girls. :)
A couple of other keepers from the collection:
I mezmerized her with the flash for a minute. She's a Georgia fan - gotta love that!! :D

You've done a great job. I love them all. I really like what you were able to do with the first shot. It is a slavage that doens't look like a salvage. Like it was meant to be. |

LOL!!! So I'm not the only one shooting screaming babies!!! And that's precisely what I've done too... when they stop cooperating I just move in close for the macro shots. :-)

AWESOME idea! Bet it really tugs at the heart strings. Which, of course, drives up sales! :-)

LOL Robert, they apparently wanted a girl really really badly! Daddy sat very quietly through most of the session; Mommy whispered to me that he'd had a vasectomy on Friday. lol Guess it was all about the girl. :P

Well, let them know I've got two girls if they want to trade. Signing of a waiver required. |

Great shots Cindi!...Good thing you had parents that were patient enough to for her to settle, sometimes the parents can get as flustered as the baby... I hope they are some crying shots in there for them, so they remember what their little bubba was like on the day! Sometimes they can make the cutest photos!

I feel your pain Cindi, as a childrens portrait photographer I deal with that stuff at least once a week, sometimes once a day.

This is absolutely gorgeous, you did a great job, Cindi!
My nephews wife has been in labour since early yesterday afternoon.
We're all wrecks waiting for the news that the baby's finally arrived (I think it will be their only child ;-) |

Those shots are wonderful. I just left a session with a 5 week old. About 2 hours and I would say 75% was crying. Mom got him to sleep and I was able to get a lot of great shots. I have learned that it takes a lot of patience to work with newborns (or any child in general).
Those shots are perfect. Her parents will be very happy.
P.S. I love that Georgia outfit. :) |
