No no, I think we're confusing two different things.
Anyone could join this, but they had to sign up during the first 24 hours of voting, per Judi's first post in this thread.
Puckzzz is talking about the LAST mediocre challenge, where the losers had to include something specified by that one's winner in this entry. Different concept.

Hey girl...I like your whips and chains...but me thinks it has gone to your head. You are confused with the previous 'Boring, Mediocre Challenge'. This is a new challenge..based on the Candy scores. So Erik could have joined if he had nominated himself within the first 24 hours of voting. Unfortunately that time has passed....but Erik...be sure to keep a look out for future 'Boring, Mediocre Challenges'.
