Catch me if you can, I've got no ribbons so haven't got any of my own to imitate :-) I just like asking awkward questions.

Thanks for the rule clarification.
This will be a most interesting challenge. Assuming the emulations are good, it is in effect a way for challenge winners to compete in a free study.
There will be ribbon winners that won their ribbons because they were a perfect fit for their challenge, but maybe not the strongest photos ever taken here. It will be vastly entertaining to see how the voting works out for their emulations.
I suppose some entries will emulate older challenge winners (taken when 4 MP was a lot and when Photoshop was less capable than today, and when tools (like noise reduction) didn't really exist.) It will be interesting to see how the ribbon winners compare with their modern emulations.
Fun, fun, fun!

Fool him into thinking you are going to do a JOnes ribbon and he'll be more than willing...

Is it morally right to include original title and name of the creator? |

That was a suggestion at the beginning of the thread, and I think it would help to be easily able to find the original of the Deja Vu.
Another question; if we are to emulate the original as closely as possible would it be ok or not to take a shot from the exact same location, making it virtually identical? Or would it be much better to make something similar with totally different objects/scenery/people, etc?

here's another question - if the previous shot had text on it, are we allowed to put text on this one ?
Common sense says 'yes', but the rules don't state that text is allowed ? |

Per the Advanced Editing rules and no extra rules that would result in disqualification. Maybe you could figure out a way to have the text in the original shot?
(edit) Looking at the description again there are extra rules, but they emphasize Advanced Editing and do not allow adding text.

I can find no logic to conclude it is morally wrong.
How does morality enter in?
What logic did you use to conclude it might be morally wrong?
No agenda here. Just interested.

Can you have a Deja Vu II or III? Surely that is Groundhog Day territory? |

Well after reading this whole thread, I'm getting more nervous about my shot not being EXACTLY like the original. But are voters really going to go through all the entries, and then go to the originals as well to compare them? We all know that many voters don't like spending more than a split second on pictures, why would they spend a few minutes? |

I'm guessing that the voters will search for the original and if it's not easy to find that may hurt the score. I am trying to work out the best way tot title my image so that it is easy to find the original but isn't a naff title like "the blue ribbon in the xxx challenge". |

A quick short way to do it would be to use the the challenge date as your title. That narrows it down to 3 choices and Challenge Archives will bring it up chop chop.

Or include the user's name. A quick jaunt to their profile will likely bring up a high scoring ribbon. |

I am confused also on what to title the picure, I was thinking of naming it the same thing it was titled by the original person, and adding "by" and then thier name. |

Without saying exactly how I named it (in case thats makes my image easy to identify in voting) I have taken on suggestions in this thread and used the same title as the original and also included the photogs name. |

Looking at the just the top 20 in the past two Deja Vu challenges some used the same title, some used the title in part of their entry title, some put 'tribute to' or 'by ----', and some just used their own title relying on the fact that the composition would be recognizable to the image that they were trying to emulate. So whatever route one goes I think will be absolutely fine as long as the photo is strong and emulates many of the key elements of the original ribbon winning entry.
Heh, just thought of this, but it would be interesting to see an emulation of a previous ribbon winning Deja Vu challenge that was emulating the original... |
