As often happens, and more so recently, I come across excellence in photos, which, by my standards at least, have not received the attention they deserve. Sometimes their placement posted in the official challenge results coincides with my (personal) evaluation, sometimes there is distance. Occasionally, a gem has been subjected to severe 'oversight' and/or prejudices, whatever the voters' motivations may be.

To remedy this and to pay respect to those who have made my world a little richer by sharing their works, I want to post an alternate award after and for every challenge (or at least as many as I can handle).

Here are my winners:

Zeus' Top Pic(k)s: Tools

1. Place > //www.dpchallenge.com/image.php?IMAGE_ID=35176
2. Place > //www.dpchallenge.com/image.php?IMAGE_ID=35146
3. Place > //www.dpchallenge.com/image.php?IMAGE_ID=35077

My comments on the respective images are posted, where they usually are, beneath the image.

PS: Sorry the thumbs are still missing. I'm a slow learner. ;-)

I thought your 3rd place should have won.

First and third both very good IMO

I truly struggled with this image, MrCaN (see my comments on it).

I voted Hot Work, your first pick as my best of the week. I thought it was awesome!

I liked jj's Used Tools, the official winner as well, but I made choices.

I gave those images 9, 6, and 6 respectively.

I was hoping that this would win.

I liked your three picks but not in the same order. I will say that this theme had some very good shots and lots of people finally getting the theme right with the picture. It was hard picking them in order and rating them. I had to go back several times and correct my first score.

Thanks Zeus! Honoured and extremely grateful indeed for my virtual ribbon top spot. :D

As always, I appreciate your extensive consideration and assessment of the challenge entries. Hats off to you.

I like mine the best //www.dpchallenge.com/image.php?IMAGE_ID=34978
Oh sure there were some better picture as has been pointed out from zeuszen, her no 1 is my number 1, it got a 10 from me. However, I bet I had way more fun taking mine than most of you guys did taking hammers and wrenches etc.

P.S. Like to ask the 18 people who gave me a 1's and 2's WHY???

Chez - I liked yours too. You probably got PC votes for the 1s and 2s. Low votes for good pics really bug me.

I also liked this one, despite it being a bit skewed:

It's a great street-level, grimey, action shot with some good detail. Not a tool that is familiar to most either.

K-Rob's second place was excellent though.

I think this shot fit the challenge quite well, actually. Those who felt differently, should have considered it an ironic choice, IMO. It is a good entry, in my book, although not an outstanding one. Both subject and the manner of rendering it, I feel, did not (quite) live up to the expectation raised by this choice.

Instead, and at least latently, it probably evoked a clichee conducive to the lightest interpretation, which may have both won and lost you a point or two on both sides of the scale?

zeuszen

Did I fail in my how-to or do you prefer to post the url's?
Or is it a MAC issue?
LOL

Just curious;

It's just that my trivial life is taking away too much time from that which is really important. ;-)
Your tutorial shines.

I love that No. 3 shot. Very atmospheric - although it probably suffered from challenge-off-brief votes.

I hate to say this, but Thumbnail number one is bringing up a photo titled "Resting Otter" and not "Hot Work"?

I'am sure this was not the way it was meant to be.
