I'm looking at the ZR800 for a birthday gift for my stepsons 18th birthday .
Buydig has one for 229.99-- It seems like a decent camcorder. |

I have an Elura 100 mini dv. It's pretty good. Good picture quality. Low light performance is not very good but that is true of most camcorders with the exception of sony nightshot cameras. I havn't used it a whole lot (only on special occassions) but I havn't had any nagging issues. |

I looked at those a while back and was very interested in the ZR850. I can't remember what the spec differences between the two were though...

B&H has it for $234.95. Providing a link because it has a demo (if you have not seen it yet). Looks like a nice camera, 35x Optical with IS. |

I had a ZR90MC (mini DV). My experience is probably not indicative of everyone's but I'd never buy another Canon camcorder - it had poor low light performance when it worked but the kicker was it died twice - the first time the sensor went bad and all it would record was blackness. Canon fixed it for free under a recall (it was only 2 years old). A few months later the camcorder completely died (wouldn't even turn on). I didn't bother to get it fixed the second time.

He is right... Canon is good at making cameras, not camcorders. It's a whole new market with different companies leading the way. Mine has done O.K for me but there are better ones to get... don't let brand loyalty to Canon affect what kind of camcorder you buy. You wouldn't get a Nike laptop or Sony barbeque chicken wings, right? |
