Images, like babies, do not depend on the method of conception nor the difficulty of the labor and delivery for their beauty. All this airing of poopy diapers just sullies the enjoyment of the imagination's offspring.
I immensely enjoyed viewing and voting on this challenge! I found a great deal of inspiration in the images presented. With several new favorites and many more high votes given than in any challenge in recent memory it's disheartening to come into this thread and see the petty me-ism going on! BAH! |

I am master of my domain :) let's see if I can handle NOT seing the scores :D |

But could it have been a normally sharp image someone applied a software filter to? Sure. |
Personally, like I said before, if it makes me think PHOTOSHOP!! when I look at it, then I probably won't like it as much. But that's not about a bias against Photoshop - I have nothing against using it, sometimes very extensively, to edit challenge entries - and I am VERY aware that I really have no idea what's done in-camera or not. (Although, there are some times where you can tell it's a filter, like the plastic wrap filter.)
Basically, when the photo screams Photoshop to me, it just means that I find the effect, be it in-camera or during post, overdone. I don't like that as much, and I have every right not to. I don't vote people down for using Photoshop but I do vote people down if they distract me from the essence of the image with an overemphasis on technique.

So very true but like always this will just fall on deaf ears. Fact is people like to hype their own style/interest by devaluing others. It's just another form of separatism. That's all this is.

I think this challenge is a challenge in itself for ones voting. Comments such as, "If it looks photoshopped or if it looks like a filter has been used I am marking it low" are terrible. How do you know for sure that it WAS photoshopped or that a filter was applied. Someone may have gone to a lot of trouble to create an effect naturally without using the computer and with your presumtion you mark it low. There was also a comment that someone hated filters and was going to mark users low. So does that mean a magnificant photo that uses a filter will get marked a three because you dont like filters? What happened to voting on the composition, light, subject etc. etc? Obviously the use of a filter will play a part in your vote but should not be the major consideration. It is sad to see a great shot marked low because of use of a filter and it sits beside a really crappy shot that had no thought put into it. It is like how you vote on a shot that you think may have broken editing rules. Vote as if is hasn't. Take more into consideration than just your dislike of filters. I used this challenge as a opportunity to use a filter because I normally dont use one but felt it suited the photo and the challenge. It would not be what I normally do but had fun doing it and am quite happy with my photo.

All the comments are super positive (thanks!), and 1 fav. So why the 0.3 drop?? *shrugs* Oh well, I'm off for my second look through and maybe do a little bumping... |

Cute! I haven't achieved that goal yet but if I do I'll be looking for that icon. (closest I came was 2 comments, and that on an image that scored 6.11)

That is probably the coolest award out there. It's funny that it's hard to read the text on it. It's like trying to read the text in your 0 comments. :P
ETA: Closest I've come is 1 comment.

My entry is perfect example of it. Its a wonderful composition, no doubt.
But I used a photoshop filter to create it. Its at 5.9, would have been easily scoring 6.5+ normally.
I do not want to complain, because mine is not the only one affected by this. And I think even voters (we ourself) are confused about the whole thing (in camera or not).
But I look it this way that I at least have a picture that I would love to take print and put on my walls. |

Voting down images in the Impressionism challenge for use of filters is like voting down images in HDR challenges because it "looks altered in photoshop" |

Lucky I'm not very often a voter ... FWIW, good HDR shouldn't look Photoshopped either.;-)

There were special rules for the HDR challenge. Not quite the same thing.

What does special rules have to do with it. People are voting entries down because they don't like how we achieved the look in impressionism. |
