The software routine that examines the votes at roll-over and removes votes for people under the 20% limit as well as any 'erratic' or 'questionable' voting trends (all 10's, all 1's, etc.)

Talk about scrubbing! My grandma would wash your mouths out with Ivory Soap. How does that translate to the internet...Go scrub your hands after typing all of that profanity:^D |

Ivory? Far too mild ... I'd think this would need Lava or Boraxo ... |

I don't think the 20% vote scrubbr is working. In the Speed challenge, there were 201 entries. I got distracted by life and voted only 19 entries but my votes still show on the results page.
Did they get counted?
If not, why do they still show> |
There was a challenge recently that I didn't make it to 20% on when voting. The results page shows my vote cast for those that I did vote on, but when you open the actual challenge entry your vote does not show up in red - meaning it wasn't included with the total. It is strange that the vote shows on the results page... |
Thanks for that, it was informative and helpful.
SC!
I have called for greater transparancy in the past, but my calls have fallen on deaf ears. This is an example where votes were deleted and it's not obvious to mere mortals around here that their vote(s) was(were) thrown into the bit bucket.
I would ask that, whenever a vote is discarded, that the voter be informed of the fact, and of the reason ... e.g. 1) doesn't meet the 20% threshhold; 2) any other reason.
An email would do the trick. For example an email that said, "All your votes in the XXX challenge were discarded because you failed to meet the 20% threshhold." Or, "your vote on these entries were discarded: xxx, yyy, zzz in the challence CCC were discarded because you exhibited a pattern of voting we associate with 'friend voting'." Or, "you are a troll and we have discarded all your votes below 3 on the CCC challenge." I don't want to be prescriptive here, but whatever ...
You cound use this as a mechanism to inform and motivate responsible voting. Who could be opposed to that?
Otherwise, we must agree we are in a totalitarian regime where, "He who casts the votes decides nothing. He who counts the votes decides everything. - Karl Marx"

We're mostly all grownups here, aren't we? I think we can take responsibility for our own 20% voting without SC having to babysit and notify us. If we can't, that's our own fault and problem!

Oh babe in the woods, we may be grown-ups, but the 20% isn't really the issue. The issue is votes cast in good faith that may be deleted from the voting, for reasons that are secret. There is no notice, or appeal, or second sight, or visible due process. No transparancy.
Not sure what set routerguy666 on fire, but he's a pretty smart cookie. This may not be something that troubles many good folks here. But in my mind it goes to the integrity of the site and its adminsitration. I raised issues previously about what has become known as "friend voting." I was ridiculed and pooh pooh'ed, until the issue was better understood and then there was scandal, and draconian correction.
Maybe with greater transparancy we can skip the ridicule, scandal, and draconian correction.

Yup, the voting's completely rigged -- that's why I have that enormous collection of ribbons ...
I can see a notfication that one's votes were discarded (for whatever reason), but I can't really see how "transparency" in voting will help matters, or would work at all. |

I'd settle for notification! Transparancy is in the eye of the beholder.
I just noticed your sig says, "Question Authority! (Go ahead, ask me anything!)ΓΆ„ΒΆ"
Ironical.
Are you "for real 60's, man" or "faux 60's, dude?"
Power to the people!

RG is not a cookie....he's an asshole.
Originally posted by BeeCee: We're mostly all grownups here, aren't we? |
No, in fact, it's been stated repeatedly - we are mostly all assholes here.
And to quote something I just saw down there (or up there), "being an asshole is part of my manly essense" - and before anyone asks, yes, being an asshole can also be part of your womanly essence. ...but not yours routerguy. :)
Regarding notification of your votes being scrubbed - shortly after I first joined the site and only voted 10%, I received a telegram the day after rollover:
But they quit doing that as the site grew. I agree with Dr. Confuser though, we should go back to that process - I really enjoyed the tea and bagels. |

Hi. I guess since my quote was used I should clarify my position/thoughts on this.
I knew I didn't meet the 20% limit (started voting, then decided I wasn't in the right frame of mind to vote objectively). I knew my votes were going to be "thrown into the bit bucket".
The only thing I found interesting/strange was that when I opened up the challenge results page(s) the vote I had made was showing in the 'Your Vote' section of the results. However, when I look at the actual challenge entry by opening that photo page to see comments and all votes cast, my vote does not show in red (which is correct).
Geez. Long-winded...to summarize. My vote shouldn't have shown on the challenge results page under 'Your Vote'. |

LOL. My grandma had different levels of scrubbing for different swear words. Lava was for words with "F" or "C" in them. |
