I am curious how many of you vote on images that are edited into illustrations and only partially retain photoraphic qualities. There are many in this free study. Many times I just skip voting on them as it is difficult for me to vote using the same criteria I use for photographs.
Do you just rate the quality of the final image, or give points for editing/illustrating skills?

I vote on the overall image quality - I am not a big fan of manipulated images but I also respect that these images take a lot of time and effort to do especially when done correct so i vote on everything - I probably have more lea way towards more traditional pictures as this is more of a photographic site rather than a digital art site?
If it looks good I vote good - If not I leave a comment as to why not for me. Not that it's a rule for everything but just for me.... |

The editing done, some of it anyways, can be achieved in a real darkroom. It's just now we use a digital darkroom, it's faster, easier and we can erase our mistakes more easily. But it's still the same thing. Our digital darkroom does allow for more filters etc...but I think that if the picture does look nice to me, I would rate it as it being nice...doesn't matter if they edited it it massively or not. It's expert editing so it's allowed. If people aren't interested, they can submit to basic challenges. |

I bounce up then I drop down and now I have bounced up again. It has been hanging in the low 6s. The first day it had dropped to 5.8. I am happy where I am. Won't complain if for some reason it wants to go higher. I haven't been focusing to much on the results of this challenge. For some reason I have actually been shooting more the past few days. Submitting to the B/W sidechallenge which is a blast, and submitting to other challenges (impressionism). I am now deciding if I want to submit one of my B/W photos into bokeh (don't worry no one has seen it yet since it is for Day 4 side challenge) Oh well, enough talking (typing) I must go play with my photos.

If the pictures are no longer photographic in nature I vote them down - and I believe that is in line with this site and with what is stated in the expert editing rules:
You should: keep your entry photographic in nature. Though violating this guideline is not grounds for disqualification, voters are encouraged to rate entries accordingly.
I would hate to see this site turn into something similar to DeviantArt (not that I have anything again st DeviantArt, but it's a different kind of site) and I vote accordingly.
It is, of course, a matter of personal taste/preferences if a picture is "photographic in nature" or not... |

I agree with this. A lot of what's done in digital editing CAN very much be done in a film darkroom and it's still, all very much "photographic" in nature. Someone still had to take a camera and take the shot/shots. The editing simply allows for more effect, depending on what the photographer wanted to achieve.
Personally, I find that when looking at a photograph that has been edited to this point, I'm seeing a lot of creativity in these photos as it takes a lot of imagination (not to mention time and effort) in the editing process to achieve something like that. A lot of people might misinterpret it as "covering flaws" in "photography" in using the editing tools to such a degree. I find it refreshing to see a change. We have basic editing that doesn't allow very much manipulation at all and advanced, which allows a bit more capabilities. However, once in "expert", I think that it should be regarded as purely up to the photographer as to how far they want to go with it and I vote according to what pleases my eye. Some of the winning entries in here have deviated quite a bit from purely photographic and there are some exquisite pieces because of it!
DeviantArt has some absolutely phenominal pieces! I'm in awe of some of their work in there. Some of it is purely magical and I'd LOVE to have the skills to be able to do what they are doing in there! :) They are very much to be admired. But, you're right....it wouldn't fly in here! :(

It's only been more of a photographic site because the rules until now have kept it as such. Now we have a ruleset that introduces a little more of a digital art flavor. It strikes me as silly to put limits on what is and is not acceptable based on what is acceptable per other rulesets when they just don't apply. Those other rulesets are not the rules here, so why drag them in?
Mine is scoring 6.5ish now, sometimes a personal best and sometimes not as it fluctuates. Most of my entry was achieved in Advanced Editing. The Expert part was actually an afterthought, and is not the focal point.

I started around 6.8 and broke 7.0 today, which will be a personal best for me if it can hold out. I could have submitted this in a basic editing challenge; it's nice to see the expert editing is not a requirement for a good score.

only 0.08, I have dropped 0.3 over night.
I am still happy that it is over 6, I was expecting 5.5 for it. Its a great shot (well worty of 7.5+) but at dpc, art sells less than a postcard. |

Wow, a lot of good work this time around.
3 10s
13 9s
39 8s
80 7s
88 6s
16 5s
2 4s
1 1
And I plan on revisiting and bumping some of those up after I go through the rest the first time.
You have rated 242 of 502 images (48%) in this challenge.
You have commented on 21 images (4%) in this challenge.
On a personal side, at a 100 vote mark I've collected 19 comments (18 perfect ones and 1 not-so-perfect) and 3 favs, and I'm still hanging out there above 7.0 (for the first time in my DPC life). I'm so content with the comments, that I do not care if an army of trolls attacks me and drops me under 6... trolls normally do not leave comments nor they can take those away from me. |

Lurking in the mid 6's - higher would be nice(obviously), but I'm cool with the current score.

It has come down alot from the 40 vote area, but still going to be in my top 5 highest scoring, I am happy with that. Thanks to everyone who has left comments on the photo thus far! They have been great, on the opposite side of things I am about half way through voting. Hope to get to 80% tonight and finish tommorrow.

Mine just isn't moving at all. Almost every vote is a 6. Oh, I get the occassional 7, but then the next one is a 5.
