Saturday September 22nd.
Let's go shoot the aspens up in Golden Gate State Park.
Hike up through the campgrounds to the meadows, where the ruins are.

Sounds like fun!! Is anyone going to camp there? Do you know what area yet? |

I wouldn't be camping there - it's likely to be crowded and I don't have equipment anyway.
I always hike up Raccoon through the campgrounds to the meadow with the ruins, where I pick a boulder and have a picnic lunch, play in the meadow, etc. It's a "moderate" trail, an easy one to just meander through with a terrific variety of scenery and TONS of aspens, which should all be right about at the peak of their color that weekend. (I did the loop around the top once instead, didn't like it nearly as much.)
Then, of course, I've always got to drive up to Panorama Point before heading back to the city. And that should be a drop dead gorgeous scene, with snow on the mountains and all the yellow in the valley.

I would love to go, but unfortunately I will not be able to that Saturday. If you went Sunday the 23rd, I would have a better chance of making it.
For those of you who are not familiar with the park, and are trying to decide, here are some links:

I am checking with my husband. If we go, we will have to camp there so we can stay through Sunday! I'm up for a 2 day GTG.
Anyone else game? |

I'm game :) Although, the possibility exists that I may try to head out west, rather than staying in the Front Range that weekend. |

I might be able to make it, I will be there this weekend on a group camping trip. How do you get to the ruins, we were camping with the same group last year and we took a really boring hike so I would like to see the area you are talking about.
Also if you have never made the hike to hanging lake near Glenwood Springs I highly recommend it, we did it last saturday and it was a fantastic hike and the lake is georgous. I want to go back up and get there early when the light is good and get some better shots. |

I don't know all the trail names, but you start up Raccoon, go through the campsites, and on to the meadow. There's a ruined structure in the meadow not far off the trail. I vaguely recall that it was some kind of mess hall, but I may be misremembering.

And no, the 23rd doesn't work for me, since I offered to shoot crowd pics at a charity 5K that day.

I might be in, if I have enough money for gas (which is kind of up in the air.. I really want to drive to Canyonlands and shoot this fall, maybe I could combine the trip with this, but I need to buy some frames and prints and stuff so we'll see if I'm broke at that point) |
