LOL
I never expected all this controversy! (its my photo BTW!)
I've been meaning to do this shot for ages, for my stock photography. Anyone who submits to shutterstock will notice a similar image (with 1's and 0's reflected) when they upload their images, thats where I got the idea. The refletion is another photograph, printed about 1 inch square and held really close to the disk even at f16 its a bit shallow DOF wise, but was hard to light with smaller apertures.
As for butchering a HD... I work at a University and A LOT of PC's get scrapped, I just did a bit of 'skip-diving' as it were.
I never really complain about my score, sure I'd like to score well but for me its the thrill of the chase and in the hope that over time I'll improve.
Thanks for all your interest, it really has brought a smile to my face!
P.S. If anyone is feeling especially guilty you could purchase an enhanced license HERE!!! |

It's not that people didn't understand what the subject was or vwhat you were doing with it. You did not fill the frame = DNMC |

The frame is full. The sky is merely a reflection. |

It's the "inside of a hard drive." There's nothing else but the inside of a hard drive in the frame.
I'll never understand why people feel the need to go to such lengths to search out a reason -- any reason -- to mark down a well-executed photo. |

I think people are confusing filling the frame with centered composition.. Just because there is more activity on the sides it does not mean the object is not completely covering every inch of the picture space..

That would mean the top 3 images on the front page DNMC. Along with 90% of the photos in the challenge.

If you take the challenge literally, that's absolutely correct. I was amazed how few of the entries actually DID fill the frame.

I do! I do!
But seriously, I've seen a hard drive before and I would'nt have known what it was. I didn't vote on that challenge but I think I would've gotten confused and studied it for awhile before voting (or DNMC'ing) it. |

5.2 isn't a bad score for a "DNMCed" image.
I personally had NO idea it was the inside of a hard drive.
I know that we all hate title-dependant photos but maybe the title should have reflected the hard drive aspect a bit more.
As it was, "Free Space" makes me think of negative space which, for a fill the frame challenge, isn't that great.
I do think it's quite a pretty picture though. |

I don't know how you arrive at that conclusion. The top-three are all filled-frame photos. There is a single subject which occupies the entire frame. Are you seriously going to say that because it wasn't the animal's face that filled the entire frame that it doesn't fit the challenge? If you want to get that literal you could complain that since unneva didn't focus the entire frame on the girl's nose that it didn't fill the frame. That's complaining for the sake of complaining, not for any failure of the image. |

Well without trying to start any wars as I have great respect for alot of the photog's in here but, the pic below from one DNMC'er should have gotten its own DNMC as it's obvious that the focus of the image was the eagle which does not fill every pixel of the photo. If you want to take the challenge literally and to the extreme as some did.

Sorry..... Once again I voted according to how much I like or don't like the photo and according to my personal tastes instead of how the photographers and other voters thought I should....;P

If you do not want to enter its your choice.
Photography or non photography, following and doing what is asked is good thing. And if you do not follow what is asked I feel you are at fault, not the people who point it out to you (in form of votes here).
And please stop asking voters to be omniscient.

yea and people being shown a hard drive where nothing except the hard drive is in the frame and get DNMC from people that know it is a hard drive is bullshit.
People look for a reason to vote down vs looking for a reason to vote up more often that not it seems.I am ignoring this to save my blood pressure so no need to answer me in this thread. |
