Expert editing is okay. But, I will judge each image on artistic and technical quality. Just because an image may be right out of the camera, and not heavily manipulated, it will not cause me to lower my vote. Conversely, if an image has highly manipulated pixels, it will not garner an extra bonus vote from me. Each image will be voted on as to effectiveness. As far as I'm concerned, even though heavy editing is allowed, it will need to be a great presentation to get a great score. And, an image with very little editing could get a great score if it has a great presentation.

So will you vote an image lower if it looks like it was edited heavier than if it looked straight out of the camera?

No, as I said in my original post, "Expert editing is okay." No lower vote because an image was heavily pixel manipulated, but no advantage, either. The rules requirement is not a determining factor in my vote. Artistic and technical excellence is the key factor in my vote. That's my voting criteria. Opinions may vary!

I kind of scared of Free Studies, as I always seem to bomb with my images & scores.
I think I have an anixity attack, when it get close to rollover.
I don't know why I enter all the time..... as the result is nearly always the same.

I entered one I consider to be Expert editing, like a lot & have high hopes it will score above a 4! Well aware this audience 'hates' photoshopped images. Good luck everyone! "D

I have high hopes for mine as well, but I always do. I'm thinking 6.5 optomistically, but realistically 5.5.

I always have high hopes that I will get a 6 one of these days, but then once I see the votes I get so discouraged from trying to achieve a 6 :(
But i'm trying to stay optimistic for my power entry and my free study

Entered the best photo I have ever taken. It will be lucky to clip a 5.3 but I just wanted to get it out there and see if it resonates with anyone else.

Actually tried "expert" editing. I expect to regret it ;-)

Good luck, all!

I thought that way too, until a couple weeks ago I got my first 6. I got another one in the works too. You'll get there, don't worry. =]

In expert editing I hold no bias one way or the other.

Hey! My first expert-editing entry where I actually used expert editing to remove an offending item. Felt gooooood. :0)

You could have crossed many times i guess.
Your compositions are very good.

For example this one:

The composition is good but could only score 5.8x why?
You made a very basic mistake in it, the image does not look sharp. The spoon looks at lose focus. Barring these silly mistakes you would definitely be score high 6s. I see good future for you.

Not the many entries this free study. I'm assuming that's because of expert editing. But personally I don't like those digital art types of photographs. I just entered an advanced editing photograph, hope it still does okay? =S

yea, same here, not much editing and I noticed that advanced editing photos have no shot in these challenges, but I could be wrong. I hope.
