Latest lenswork podcast is worth a listen.
Who do you shoot for, or to satisfy ? Are your pictures about you or the subject ?

i shoot what interests me. I quickly gave up hope of winning a ribbon but not because i feel, like a lot of people, that there is a "formula" here, but plain and simple there are just too many very talented people for me to compete with. Still i like to share my vision of what i think is beautiful, funny, interesting, poignant etc..... |

Ah crap. Another podcast I have to listen too. Of course, I'll have to start at 1 of 390. |

It's probably worth it.
I'd guess about 50% of them are really good and thought provoking.
The trick is working out which 50%.

Good question. Good question to ask over and over. But it is a question I can only ask afterwards: when I shoot I shoot. (Do I have to do the podcast?) Sometimes I'm just interested in the camera, what it can do, what it can show me that I don't otherwise see; sometimes it's a Pandora's box. Same with the minimal (Irfanview) postprocessing that I do. Not sure it's my medium. Not sure of much. |

Zaphod said it best - If there's anything out there more important than my ego, I want it captured and shot.
(or something like that) |

maybe. It's short, but covers more than the couple of questions above.
