Well even if you are selling photos on Alamy or higher priced stock site the photos still get stolen. A friend in Portugal found this photo of mine from Alamy that was published in the Sabado Magazine in July. Mine is the Alligator which is the main part of the double page. Alamy had no record of it being bought or used. I reported it back to Alamy, in this case it could be a few hundred dollars depending on the useage matrix. So as well as DPC photos being stolen, it's worldwide and impacts a lot of people.

Sorry to hear. How did the print quality look? Did they steal the high resolution file? |

It looked pretty good so I believe it was a HQ file they used. I sent a copy to Alamy and they should be charging them, it'sll be interesting to see what happens next.

Have you posted that photo online anywhere else? It seems strange that it would have been stolen from Alamy. Their previews are watermarked aren't they? Someone somewhere would have had to purchase it to get the unmarked high res image.

The previews at Alamy are not watermarked, that is a problem with a lot of photogs. In the magazine on the right edge of the photo it has credit to Alamy so I don't think there is an arguement on where they got it from. You'd think that if they really "stole it" they wouldn't put Alamy as a credit. maybe they are just slow at letting Alamy know they used it. I think Alamy goes on the honor system with a lot of the big publishers.

i am not sure about alamay but i know the small stock site i give images to, if finds images that have been stolen will often take legal action to get compensation/justice. |

Also, real easy to remove them in photoshop if there was one.
