Either leave it wide open and have keys for locks, piano keys, computer keys, florida keys etc valid, or close it down, in the spirit of the 'pencil' challenge and have it just as 'keys in the style of locks' |

Or what about this picture?
Which when said by friend with a speech impediment sounds like Keys.

I like Keys For Locks. I was just thinking that we need another challenge in the spirit of the Pencil Challenge. That was my very first and still most memorable, many Moons ago. I think we need to have another like that one, it is still unique.

I'm with Doug - narrow it to Keys for locks.
Pencil was a great great challenge in terms of creativity. There have been some specified object challenges since but none which seemed to work as well as Pencil (IMHO).

I like cream cheese and lox on a bagel ....
If you want a challenge restricted to a specific object, why not use one which doesn't lend itself so well to multiple meanings -- I'd like to see the assortment of meanings as described. |

I think with 'pencils' what worked well was it is a very common subject, that comes in a variety of shapes/ colours/ implementations but is still quite constrained.
I was trying to think of something similar and keys seems the obvious choice.

I agree make it keys and leave it open for exploration, creativity and endless meaning. |

The key is that word "key" has many more alternate meanings that the word "pencil." I like the idea of an object-oriented* challenge but want to think of a different object. "Keys and/or Locks" would make a better "interpretive" challenge, IMO.
Scissors
Knife
Saucepan
Shoes
Bottles/Jars

As I recall, I was traveling during the voting, so had to get filled-in on the brouhaha after I got back.
