I recently began working some part-time hours with a camera dealer here (weekend fun). Anyone want to gripe about one or two things they don't like about their cam? (positive things are easy, the camera companies do that). I could go in and out of pages on dpreview (et al), but MORE opinions can't hurt, so start complaining.

My freakin' camera has no freakin' lenses available for it. DANG! What's the point of having thread screws anyway? I can tape filters on!

What else? Hmmm...well, it's really noisy above ISO 200 or so (I like "gritty" shots, but they don't perform well here), and it gets hot when you put cheap batteries in it.

Other than that, really, I love it. I think it was a very good purchase for me at the time.

ps -- you never mentioned what you hate about yours!

I wish my camera had more manual features... or maybe I wish I'd found DPC before buying a camera then I'd have had more idea of what to look for. But for what it is I can't fault it, it's pretty sleak.

I'd like the 10D to display the current ISO settings when I turn it on... I noticed the that the D60 does that when I used it.

Only one major gripe... I like to carry my camera in my pocket, and lint gets really easily on to the lens. I don't want to use a case because at the moment I can whip out the camera in a split second. No problem if it's in my shirt pocket though. I'd also like a shutter speed of over a second. Other than that, it's perfect.

My camera sucks in low light focusing.
My camera is very slow to focus.
My camera takes low saturation/poor color pics.
My camera has no manual focus and zooms slowly.
My camera takes too long to access most settings.

I could go on all day.

Edit:
My camera is f2.8 to f7.1 unless I'm in aperture mode, when it's f3.2 to f7.1. It's APERTURE mode!!! Why give me LESS control?
My camera does not have a bulb setting for long exposures. My camera is only 1/1000 to 8".

This Olympus C-3030Z is a great camera for the average user.
I would recommend it to anyone for average use.
But when you try to get into more advanced use the small faults show up.

The optics and the zoom are terrible, you always find yourself having to set the digital zoom to "on".

And the accessories are to dang expensive! $400 + for a flash! come on I paid that for the camera.

The viewfinder is set to the upper left of the lens making it almost impossible to guess where to place your subject accurately when in bright sun light and the LCD is unuseable.

The Camedia software that came with it was excellent for downloading and organizing your photos. The original software version allowed:

o Downloading and "uploading" of photos to the camera.
(Uploading is not allowed in the new Camedia 4.0 Pro version)
(This was nice if your friend had the same camera and software)

o Deleting photos from the camera once uploaded to the computer.
(Not allowed in the new Camedia 4.0 Pro version)

The new Camedia 4.0 Pro version is nice but lost of few of the little features I liked so well.

The overall menu and controls are a little confusing at the start.
But when you figure them out there is a lot of manual control built in.

The remote control that comes with it is great!

The movie feature allows HQ or SQ quality which is nice for down and dirty quick movies.

One of the manual features I like is the time exposure of up to 16secs.

Oh, and you can only take panorama shots using the Olympus storage card! you can not use the 3rd party storage for panorama shots !

One complaint is it won't allow infrared photography. The Dimage 7 will, but not the 7i.

My cam has sort of a slow start up time (it writes to CD-RW media, and it takes a few seconds for that to spin up to speed).

In Manual Focus mode, when it says 10cm, it doesn't always mean exactly 10 cm, so it takes several shots to get a good macro shot in focus.

I do sort of wish I could do unlimited shutter speeds (bulb mode).

On the plus side, though, 1.5 gigobytes of reusable media only cost me 10 dollars. The optics are fantastic, it is fully manual, the LCD screen is 2.5 inches, it doesn't show much noise at all, even at ISO 400, and maybe the best: the hologram auto-focus for low light focusing is nearly flawless. I love it!

I only wish I had waited 2 more months to buy it - the CD500 came out two months after I bought my CD400, with a 5 MP image, and such features as exposure histogram and stuff like that.

Great camera!

Minolta may not make accessory lenses but you could probably use another manufacturer's lens in conjunction with a step-up ring so you can match the size of your filter threads to the threads of the accessory lense. I know this may not be the optimum solution but it is an option.

About filters - from the specs for your camera I believe it is 49mm. You can get filters that size or a Cokin adapter (A series) that size. Cokin offers a wide range of filters. Just a thought.

My complaint about the G3 - seeing the lense barrel through the view finder (not a big problem since I use the LCD 99.9% of the time).

oh, mine? I guess the manual controls are fairly limited--e.g. aperture up to 8.0 only. Slower shutterspeeds (slower than 15s) would be nice, but this sensor would probably produce noisy images then. Not real gripes..that's what you get for this price range. Overall, Its been great.

thanks everyone, this stuff is great... it is certainly faster than borrowing this stuff and finding all these gripes myself. Just helps with comparisons

I wish my camera had a better photographer attached to the back :)
