I can't quite place why, but I love this image. I was thinking of entering it in Urban Landscapes but decided against it because I think voters would have chewed it up and spit it out. Am I wrong for liking this? Does anyone else find it an interesting perspective? |

It's an odd picture, with that little piece of the bridge to the one side, and then the division into water, bushes, buildings. It's quite interesting to look at, and if you like it, make a print and hang it on your wall. :) |

It's about as good as a picture of Edmonton is gonna get. ;)
In seriousness, it's quite well composed and exposed. The bridge on the left is nice for perspective. I'd say the sky is a bit boring and makes the buildings look a bit fake, but the riverside shrubs keep the eye moving around for a while. Not bad at all. |

I like the picture personally but the black and white conversion is a little flat. In the channel mixer I'd go 100% red which would darken up the sky. Levels would create added contrast which would look sweet. The bridge does kinda lop off the side of the shot though.
You are right though. I can't recall a picture of the river valley from that spot. It would be worth returning to in the fall I think.

But without the bridge there would also be no cool angular shadow underneath it. One of the features I like. I also thought that the bridge and branches added depth, but I guess not. Kinda like looking at your children, I guess. They're beautiful to you no matter how ugly they really are. (This doesn't apply to my children, everyone thinks they're cute)

As Ursula said - if you like it, print it, frame it, hang it. That's what's most important. :) |

hi, i left you a comment.
regarding the bridge, if you had cropped them out, maybe you could include more of it into the picture - it might have worked this way. |

do they actually say they're cute or do they kind of pause and say, "oh they look just like you" then turn away? lol j/k
I have to agree that it is a little flat but still an intersting picture. Remember you aren't gonna please all the people all the time (heck sometimes it's hard enough to please just one) so as said, if you like it, that's all that matters. |

Hi there Brad.
IMHO I think that there is too much to look at with not all that much that jumps out as a focal point. Perhaps that could be becuase it lacks colour and all blends in together. It would have been interesting to see a colour version to compare the two, but for me, I don't see a lot of appeal in this version.
Mind you, my opinions and that of the majority of the voting community here are often very very different. Just take a look at some of my images. :)

I agree with Citadel, I am not happy with the black and white conversion either. I think it may have looked better in colour. |
