I am working on a DVD slide show for my mother-in-law, they will be photos of when she was little going up to her great grandkids. I am drawing a blank when it comes to the songs. Any input on songs would be helpful, I just can't think of anything this morning. She usually listens to country music if that helps any.

Thanks,
Bren

Google royalty free music and country :-) You were not thinking of grabbing restricted music from CD right :-)

Take whatever you want and dont worry about royalties. Unless you are planning on selling this for profit, why worry about it.

An easy way to put these together is to take a look at what songs were popular in the time frame each picture was taken. Then the fashion in the images and the styles match the music better then if you took a song from 2007 and played it over a picture from 1948

I Hope You Dance-LeeAnn Womack

I hope you never lose your sense of wonder,
You get your fill to eat but always keep that hunger,
May you never take one single breath for granted,
GOD forbid love ever leave you empty handed,
I hope you still feel small when you stand beside the ocean,
Whenever one door closes I hope one more opens,
Promise me that you'll give faith a fighting chance,
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance.

I hope you dance....I hope you dance.

I hope you never fear those mountains in the distance,
Never settle for the path of least resistance
Livin' might mean takin' chances but they're worth takin',
Lovin' might be a mistake but it's worth makin',
Don't let some hell bent heart leave you bitter,
When you come close to sellin' out reconsider,
Give the heavens above more than just a passing glance,
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance.

I hope you dance....I hope you dance.
I hope you dance....I hope you dance.
(Time is a wheel in constant motion always rolling us along,
Tell me who wants to look back on their years and wonder where those years have gone.)

I hope you still feel small when you stand beside the ocean,
Whenever one door closes I hope one more opens,
Promise me that you'll give faith a fighting chance,
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance.

Dance....I hope you dance.
I hope you dance....I hope you dance.
I hope you dance....I hope you dance..
(Time is a wheel in constant motion always rolling us along
Tell me who wants to look back on their years and wonder where those years have gone)

Oh I dunno.... Seems to create a flurry around here when others do it with images belonging to people here but I guess music is different right :-/

That's one of my wife's favorite songs. :)

Regarding the slideshow and music combo; you may run into some problems getting music from CD's to work. DRM encoding (I think). I had to look in several places to find music that the slideshow software would accept. Can't remember the software I was using at the time...sorry.

Good luck with your project. :)

Yup! If he bought the cd and played it on a cd player in the background while his mother in law watched the dvd, that would be fine right? Yes. Then why not just use the same song that he bought on a cd, rip it to mp3 and play it while the dvd is going? (You are allowed to back up any music, software, whatever that you purchase.)

Now if he says im going to have a huge concert hall and charge people money to view my slideshow, then we got an issue.

If the slideshow is for personal use then music purchased on CD (in the user's library) then I don't think that is the same thing.

For a family gathering I don't have a problem with people using copyrighted material, and I think actually if it's a 'small private setting' you have the legal right to do whatever you want as far as using a song, so that's probably OK.

However, you should know that if you try to post it online, especially at MySpace or YouTube, they have some really amazingly perceptive programs that recognize the music's "fingerprint" and will probably not let you post it. I made a little video of pictures of my kids set to a country song from 1982, and went to post it privately to MySpace so that a few family members could see it, and got shot down because it recognized the music *embedded within* the video file. The RIAA has been cracking down hard on both YouTube and Myspace about copyright-protected uploads, so I imagine YouTube has something similar in place by this time.

I like the idea of creating a montage of song clips to go along with the montage of pictures.

Paul Anka's "The Times of Your Life" is excellent,
so is Kenny Rogers "Through the Years",
Carole Kings "Now and Forever" works well,
so does "What a Wonderful World" by Louis Armstrong, Rod Stewart and others

Pure Reason Revolution - Voices in Winter/In the Realms of the Divine

very soft, sweet, and theres a bridge between the two songs halfway though the track so you can possibly use that to your creative advantage.
