For once in my life I wished I had had sensor dust. I stared at the spot in the upper left corner forever. I didn't have time to reshoot and I REALLY wanted to make that blotch go away. Bu, it wasn't sensor dust, it was something on the background paper.
So, was I right in leaving it. Or should I have cloned it out?

Umm you asking what exactly? Should you have cloned it out because the SCs wouldn't know the difference? Only you can answer that one.

Took me a while to figure it out. Only the shape gave it away. If I hadn't been paying attention it could have gone away illegally without me intending to break the rule.

Should have just cloned it out. They don't validate shots in the lowest 10% of the challenge heheheh.
edit: oops, didn't realize it was actualy entry lol. Thought you held back from submitting it.

As far as my voting goes in basic editing, I never ever have punished a photographer for having sensor dust, knowing that if it was advanced editing the dust would be airbrushed/cloned/whatever.
So, leaving it with the dust did not affect my scoring. |

Actually sensor dust can be any shape. Depends on what gets on the sensor.

It didn't effect my voting for the same reasons stated above.
Better you did what you thought was right than have to live with yourself if it would have brought you sleepless nights. But I'm a rule follower so that's just my take on things. |

Right now, I have a nasty blob of sensor gunk that's exactly that shape. I got it when my camera fell off the tripod into the mud when I was shooting for the puzzle macro challenge. I know it's on the sensor because it's on every shot smaller than f/8, regardless of lens. But numerous sensor cleanings have failed to remove it. If it weren't a D70 that I plan to replace in the next 6 months, I'd get it professionally cleaned.
But enough about me....:P
If it's really not sensor dust, you did the right thing. |

But you have got sensor dust, one third of the way up on the left. :) |

But cloning of sensor dust is now legal in basic....

Yup, and I wonder how many people thought I was just too lazy to clone out the "dust".

If it is Basic and it is not sensor dust...then don't remove it. |

So what, we need to validate spots now or forever live with guilt and shame?

Nah... but what's the different between sensor dust and lens dust or (the rule says hot pixels) how about dead pixels?
