I posted this somewhere before but I can't find it now...

I think that DPCPrints access should be maintained separately from a standard 'membership' to the site. If a member posts prints for sale and then does not renew site membership, what happens to the prints? Under the current setup, does a member lose access to his/her portfolio space when a membership expires and is not renewed?

I found this statement in the FAQ:

"Can I sell my work here?" - We're glad you asked. To sell your prints here, you'll need to order a DPChallenge membership (What's DPChallenge?). Once a member, you'll have your own online portfolio to which you can upload prints. For more information about selling prints, visit our Sellers' FAQ for more info!

So I'm thinking that if your membership expires you would lose access to your prints and portfollio. I doubt that the prints would be deleted however, that would be bad. This would give the person time to renew and not have to redo their entire portfollio. But without membership I doubt you'll be able to maintain them. You'll probably still get paid for sales, just won't be able to make any changes or add new prints.

Although I think I agree that you shouldn't have to be a member to use DPCPrints since the feature isn't really a "service" for members, it's a money making thing for BOTH the photographer and DPC. Since DPC gets 50% of the sales price, why insist that you have to be a member to use DPCPrints? DPC might even increase sales if they allow NON-members to use DPCPrints because a browsing, non-member, just looking around may be more inclined to begin using DPCPrints since they don't have to be a member which means there's no risk (don't have to pay the membership) to try it out.

More on the idea of access ...

Most internet printing sites (e.g. Ofoto) have it so that the album owner has to authorize access to the photos -- they are not just generally browsable by internet users.

If we could have a "private" or "family" gallery to which we could authorize access, it would give us the ability to fulfill family or other personal or private orders, and at the same time reduce the number of photos appearing on the DPC Prints site to the truly "public" images.

I know I have some photos posted that my relatives might want to order, but probably no one else ... I'd be more than happy to remove them from the public galleries.

PS: When will we be able to get/buy additional portfolio space?

I have personal/family ones I too, would rather just have access to for my own use.
Along with some that are not for general viewing (not porn but not squeaky clean either) that I want to be able to print and sell but wouldn't be appropriate for all to see.

You can already do this. Just don't submit the print for review. You can purchase your own items at cost through your portfolio.

duh,, thanks...

So is it the workshop folder that is not visible to the general viewing audience?

Yes... but if you categorize the photos in your workshop folder, they will be visible to people who look by category... i learned that the hard way.. lol

I'm trying to make it so that "relatives" can order the photos themselves.
