Hi All,
Just wondered what settings you all used for sunsets? (particularly you Sony Alpha users) I use the sunset scene mode but for some reason the pics come out very orange, whereas the skies at sunset where I live are often very pink and I want to bring this out.
Is there a particular wb setting you use? I think I've tended to use the daylight wb set to -2 or -3.
Or is it better to try and bring the colour out in post-processing? I use PSP XI. |

Daylight WB should work. What will work better is to shoot in RAW, then you can tweak the WB during RAW conversion. RAW will always give you more flexibility. I use aperture priority usually at f/8 with some exposure compensation dialled in depending on how bright the sky is. |

I agree with Raziel - shoot in RAW and I typically leave it in Manual mode, bracketing exposures with a typical apeture around F8. |

Obviously RAW is best because you can correct WB later.
I like to use a low ISO around 100 and f stop somewhere between 8 and 16.
Use manual settings and use the area just to the side of the sun, not directly at it, or meter the area in your foreground. This will help you get the correct exposure for a scene that really confuses your camera. Use a tripod and bracket your exposures.
For post processing, I really like color balance w/ sunsets. YOu can bring out the pink or oranges or whatever you are going for. |
