Hi all
Well, took a beating on Street Photography, guess I should've desaturated it or somethin and had some people in it...though that was the point, as Deb got it right off the bat...
...Rolling Stones started out great at 5.7 but has since DROPPED to 5.6 range, so a little p.o.'d about that...oh well...
...and apropos of nothing at all, lost my Celtic triple goddess pendant this past weekend, been searching everywhere for it...I used it in my 'Janet Jackson's wardrobe malfunction' tribute-esque shot (Nude IV, Bejeweled). Only diff between pic and real pendant is that a) it's on a black cord and b) stone in centre is red. *SIGHS* Personally I think it's at the bottom of Big Rideau Lake, but haven't yet turned my apartment upside-down.
OK well better go vote and comment, so bye for now |

Sorry Susan - good luck finding your pendant!
Posthumous: remember when we were discussing how the relative location of a light source, diffuser, and subject can strongly affect the nature and strength of shadows? DPCer Gordon just happens to have a blog post at the moment showing great examples using a melon. Then scroll down to his next couple of posts for more good examples of how moving a light around affects the results.

Thank you! I've been thinking a lot about this distance and position of light stuff, though I haven't had an opportunity yet to control light. |

If you figure out light, would you beam me to Bali? |

There's plenty of light here! Strong light most days, though if it's very very windy, it'll get diffused nicely by all the fine dirt in the air. Direction depends on time of day. :-)

Once again I listened to my husband about a challenge entry, and once again it is a serious contender for the brown ribbon. (The last one he LOVED actually got the brown.) So glad we're not still competing in the DPL playoffs. But of course if we were, my teammates would have set me straight. |

Ah, but a brown or a near-brown is worth it if it keeps a loved one happy. I often enter pics that both my mom and I really like, knowing full well they'll tank on DPC. But she likes to help pick and she's my biggest fan. She even comes here to browse my portfolio from time to time. So fret not the score and be happy with your choice! |

Hey, that sounds like a good rationale for my 4.2966 that I got in last month's FS of my beloved daughter with her new camera!

I posted this in the results thread, but I thought I'd toss it out here....I also PM'd Jason to let him know I roasted him. He's a good sport. I also told him I'd put in a plug for a new Team Suck award called the Sneezy that should be awarded at random intervals for exemplary details and explanation of a Challenge entry. Jason woul;d, of course, be ineligible......LOL!!!
Jut a thought........8>)
I would like to not only congratulate Catherine, but point out that after two front page shots in the past week, DrAchoo took a back seat to her in the July Free Study.
Not that he isn't a great guy and helpful and all, but after two in-depth articles about how he does his winning photographs, I'm just deriving a little pedantic, immature pleasure by seeing one of Team Suck's finest whomp on him in a Free Study!
WOO HOO! Go Catherine!

When you're right, you're right. Thanks for putting this in perspective, although it's not a big deal. I just think it's rather funny that he is so consistent in his contra-DPC preferences. |

Maybe another name? The Sneezy is already given for whoopin' Jason (DrAchoo) in a challenge. :)

I'm going to pout for a moment, and crab about a score.
My "children's toy" entry was one I thought was quite strong - in focus, well lit, etc - and figured it would be sitting above 5 easily, but it's been hovering around 4.8 :( With no comments to tell me where I've gone wrong.

I cured this problem before it even started by submitting photos that I adore but are unfocused, dark and mysterious, photos that I know will not score well. One of them has hit 5 and I am pleasantly surprised. With low expectations, the climb to happiness is easy. |

I will join you both, 4.67. I loved this photo, which meant that voters would not get it. I still love it. |

The one my husband loves (in Upside Down) has clawed it's way up to 4.63. |

I envy all of you. I entered something in children's toy that was idea #4 or 5, and I really don't care about it. I don't dislike it, which at least would register emotionally. It's just a zero.
That said, I'm still on a high from a new achievement: last night finished 3 scores over 6 in a row. First time I've ever done that! :)
And I'm having a BLAST in the blur side challenge. If you haven't poked your head in, do. Some absolutely stunning work going on over there.
