It's been requested before, I know, but I'll throw my hat into the ring one more time -- especially now that we're doing some "special rules" challenges (which I really enjoy):

Can we please have a challenge of whatever topic that does not allow titles? I would really like to see how many people have to seriously stop and think about how their subject fits the challenge WITHOUT words.

I know it's "special coding" but it can't be that hard to put a little IF statement on the submission page for one week and automatically write "Untitled" into the title field of the database.

Or, heck, just re-title all of the Title fields for the entries to that challenge before voting.

OK, enough...

Personally I don't think I'm going to get involved in anymore 'special rule' challenges, since the rules can change 10 minutes after the voting starts. I've lost faith...

Was it a change or an omission?

textI would like to suggest a challenge that will make us stop and reflect on what we are looking at. Such as something like "The Human spirit" causing a deep sense of thought before snapping that special shot that makes your heart beat a little faster when you know you have that "special" shot. Just a suggestion:)

The problem with an untitled challenge comes when we want to sell prints. We would have to have our print files on DPCP called "Untitled" too, and also when browsing the challenge there would be no way to be able to find a particular photo. If we could have titles, but they were just hidden till the end of voting, I think this would be a good challenge to do.

I missed the point here.. what harm a title can do?

OK.. I know.. now I will be bombarded with messages stating that everything must be inside the picture but, actually, I think that way of thinking to be as silly as to believe in a religion just because it was the one of the society where we were born.

In fact, it is a sign of narrow minding..

Imagine, for a moment, that somebody could shot a subject of which nobody knows anything and of what nobody as ever seen anything also.

Is it good? Is it bad? But, most importantly, what the hell is it?

In that case, you would pay millions from your pockets (if you have them) to have at least a bloody title.

it's just one challenge. and it would be a challenge to do it. people always seem to think one challenge suddenly means the definition of an entire new philosophical/esthetic/paradigm. what does it hurt to try these exercises?

It's a good idea. Let the pictures "mime" the author's thoughts. Many times, I find the title disproportionately holding the burden of conveying the idea for the challenge. As for accessibility of the pictures after the challenge is over, why not let the participant actually give a meaningless 5-string name for his or her entry (like choosing a PIN number for your ATM)? Just a thought, while waiting for the rains to subside in typhoon-struck Hong Kong.

This would better be called a "Designated Title" challenge. If there is a theme to the challenge (as is usual here), that automatically becomes the "default" title of every photo.

Perhaps the challenge could be "Take a photo titled '____'"
