I'm new at the challenges on here and I have a question regarding the audience for the challenges.

Who is the intended audience?

You figure that out and you will begin to unlock the secret of getting blue ribbons consistently.

Basically the voters are your peers here at DPC. Figuring out what they like is a growing process, I've been here almost 5 years and I'm still hacking away at it.

your audience is your voter. Please them and you'll rake in the blues.

He-he. Good question. Should be interesting to see the answers. :P

I thought I kinda knew for awhile; nothing left but a slight slippery grasp now.

The quick answer is the voters are your audience. :D

For Member challenges only DPC members can vote.
For Open challenges members and registered users can vote.

Do you want to win ribbons or showcase your work? Some are able to do both while others need to alter their style to place well. Many are content to let the chips fall where they may regarding voting results and enter photographs they are proud of and fit their style.

Guys like Steve ( pawdrix), and Don ( posthumous) come to mind initially as photographers that stick to their style and personal taste, although there are many other gifted photographers on this site with the same philosophy I'm sure.

The DPCr's that can showcase and win are talented photographers that also know (and shoot for in many cases) the style/theme/properties of images that do well with voters.

Look at the Challenge Archives for a feel of what wins and who is winning (if that's your desire...to win virtual ribbons). You'll see many names of photographers that rise to the top quite frequently. I'd name some but would get called out for missing someone I'm sure...one is safe (I hope), and that's Shannon ( scalvert). Here's a good read that he put out there some time ago that is still relevant: Win a Ribbon!

Target audience? Good question. I guess you need to find your niche, pick a spot, and decide what you want to shoot for.

Good luck, and enjoy the ride! :)

Who is your audience?

Mostly people who prefer eye candy over substance; staged crafts over emotive captures; and noiseless vibrance over a deep, thought provoking grainy black and white or sepia. Only one of my personal shots that has scored a 6 or better, I like. The rest in that range on my page are just fluff to me.

If you want scores then you have to shoot to those types. Is that a bad thing? Depends on how you look at it. There are people here that I am in complete awe of their creativity yet I don't have as much respect for their photography as I do others. Personally, I am neither creative nor a good photographer but I am always checking out the works of friends like RKT, bucket, sevilduvarci and my newest favorite young'un simplesilent.
