Been in a rut recently, not taking any pictures for weeks. Went for a walk last night and took these pictures here

Would love to hear any opinions and comments people have on them.

*sigh* Gordon, I really wish you would quit it with the photos of the electrical meters. LOL.

I really really enjoy the Lone Star and the Fire Hydrant, but perhaps it's just the B/W nut in me. No... they're just exceptional shots.

I also greatly enjoyed the Harley shot, although there was some unavoidable glare.

Congrats! You should take walks more often. Beware subway grates, though....don't want your kilt all flyin' up.

The Lone Star shadow and fire hydrant are real nice. Love the perspective on the hydrant, great tones and nice DOF makes it a strong shot.

Thank you for the comments.

On the glare - I had a discussion once with someone who does 3D modeling - that majority of the problems they face seem to be getting good glare - and photographers spend a lot of time trying to kill them off. (edit - them being the glare not the 3d modelers)

I had a polariser on for that shot, and actually chose the glare I was getting - it was a shiny, brand new bike - on a summers evening, it's supposed to have some glare! I moved it around so that the words were obscured and revealed the way that I wanted them and tried to remove myself from the reflections as much as possible. Mainly I wanted the 'low rider' to be emphasized.

and yes, I still shoot meters - the patterns still jump out at me - this time because of the red notices within the patterns. Probably not that interesting though...

The Lone star shadow shot is part of an on-going project to shoot the various starts cluttering up Texas. I've been a bit too literal on this
in the past, doing very 'straight on' records of stars so I'm trying to
do something a bit more interesting.

The rest of the star shots so far can be seen here though its really still early days.

The hydrant shot is definitely the standout, gotta love that DoF combined with the detail on the nut.

I really like the leaf shot too. Again the DoF makes the shot. The blurred out points of light are great.

i like the hydrant as well...but my favorite is the stop sign. That just awesome in my opinion. Maybe im just a sucker for atmospheric shots, but it's cool. The meter shot is sweet as well. Good job.

"Roadkill Star" is really funny. I enjoy that one quite a bit.

I really like the hydrant because of the lighting, detail, and DOF you chose. great image. I also like the Star shadow.
Nice captures. Keep taking walks, but not inside the capitol building!
