Yup.. don't be fooled by what you see online. Those photos are sharp. They are also tattered and torn. I have seen lots of actual daguerreotypes and they are amazing.

I can only suggest that you get an opportunity to view a well-preserved daguerreotype that was made sometime around 1850 or so... you will be amazed.
