Is bad on my wallet. I have a tendency of going there on lunch breaks and dropping loooot. A few weeks ago I got that Nikon 50mm F/1.8 and today I bought a bunch of filters (ND+2,4, and since they were buy 2 get one, I got the "Close Up Set x1,2,4)Its onyl a matter of time until I go in and come back out with a ridiculous lens or a new body altogether. |

lol I know the feeling, I work a few train stops away from B&H and whenever I go to 34th I have to tell myself not to go in, I wont even go close..lol cause I know I will end up buying something. Just this weekend I was visiting in cape cod and meetup with another DPC'er and went into a camera store with him and ended up walking out with a bag. Camera stores get me all the time :-)

Just think how close www.adorama.com is! Right there are your fingertips! (I think I own stock in Adorama by now ... if not, I should, they have enough of my money)

I demand instant satisfaction though. I mean I went to Ritz, bought the filters, and then 2 minutes later was sitting in my car taking pictures of my steering wheel at red lights to try them out. |

You cant play with every SLR hands on in the shop and put them back in the case andleave without buying anything with adorama.com.
You go play at ritz then buy online. |

Last week, when I was in Chicago, I went to 2 Ritz Camera store to buy a Bigma and a Sigma 105mm macro lense. Neither had them in stock... too bad because lenses are a lot cheaper in the USA than in Canada. The Bigma is $999.00 there compare to $1599.00 here in Canada.
PS I also went to Central Camera in downtown Chicago, they did not had the lenses either. |

Kind of the same situation here. I have a two wolfcamera stores (same company as Ritz) up the road from my house no more than 5 min's away. One is a full stand alone store with print services and large printing on site. Also stock cameras, lens, telescopes, bags, etc. But when it comes to 2.8 high end lens and bodies such as the 5D and up, they have to order it. But it's a nice place for accessories and mid line products. |

Yea if Ritz had better stock I would own about $2,000 more in stuff. |

That seems to be the company policy, anything "special" they have to order, cause it doesnt make sense to keep it in stock. |

It sure saved me some money while I was on vacation, but, I still want to buy these lenses eventually and I will probably end up spending more here in canada :( |

...and that's exactly why they have not $ out of me for years. I always preferred to buy in person but got sick of them never having anything - nothing, nada "but we can order it in" (well guess what, so can I). If I cannot touch it then I am left to shop on price/trust/service and now I buy everything from B&H or Adorama and they have lost me as a customer for life. Dosn't seem like a great business plan in the long term to me but maybe they get enough film to develop and frames sold :-o/

I believe B&H ships to Canada for about $40.

Companies are so stupid, inventory dollars are such a big issue to them that they fail to have anyting in stock then end up missing out on sales. When I was younger stores always understood you could not sell what you do not have but today that has really changed which makes buying over the internet much more appealing. I used to drive about 10 miles extra to go to an auto parts store that I knew would have the part instead of stopping at the one right by my house because it was faster than stopping then going there anyway. I wonder why stores are struggling? |
