This was my entry for desolate-
An Existence In Ruin
This was an altered version which I didnt enter but everyone seemed to want Alternate
I do have another which has a lighter tree but anyway...
How much better is it? Would it have scored more? How can I change it still?
Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
PS. Seems my scores are finally catching up with my talent. My seasonal shot has a 4.4. Down we go! |

I gave your entry a 6 would give the alternate an 8 - The alternate has a much more pleasing contrast and tonal range

The alternative is far preferable to your entry. The deeper contrast adds gravitas to the subject whereas the washed out look of the entry simply appears to be naiive.
The image in your alternative is also sharper, more distinct and generally more atmospheric. Additionally, the composition is superior and more powerful in its presentation. The grain also assists in shrouding what may be a softly focused original.
I gave your entry a 3, but I'd give the alternative a 5-6.
