Relax. Wait until the end of the week until you have a few more than 32 votes before you start getting worried about 'sabotage'

It is difficult to relax with these... but I try. I am kind of upset right now as you may guessed it.

Oh, and there are a few stunningly great examples ... so have a look and appreciate them when they come by.

Saw a few stunningly great examples and voted them appropriately. Couldn't understand why most of the others were submitted under the catagory of still life. While my entry does not compare to a few of those stunning ones...I did set up, capture and submit what I would consider a traditional still life. I must have done a lousy job since it is starting out below 5!

I am very serious, I would like SCs to listen please. I am around for a long time to know about this. and I know there are very nice pictures in this challenge, I don't ask a ribbon or anything like that, I ask justice, that's all.

dont worry, it could actually end up being in your top 3. Cant be that bad. 6 is a good score

I guess I am not going to attempt another still life til I figure out how to do studio lighting. While using natural light wasn't optimal...at least I made the attempt..*sigh

It should be my second best if not third with my last 4 challenges, which one hasn't started yet. After a DQ and a brown ribbon, I promised myself not to get anything less than 6 and I worked hard to get those results. I checked and double checked previous winners. It's not like "I" believe something about "my" picture, no.. it is now getting to a stage that I really get suspicious. and after all that going on lately!!!

But, again.. I will wait. I wanted to express my feelings publicly, and wanted to show that people won't stay quite. not me.

I have come to expect the worse. I thought my entry had a chance for a 6, but it doesn't look good.

And it was lower when I first woke up. I am completely confused. I shot a traditional still life...no animals, insects or landscapes. It was well thought out, worked for the perfect light and affect that I wanted...positioned everything until I was satisfied. The exposure was dead on. I'm just confused??? What is it the voters want???

I was hoping for a bit better, but I gues I can't complain, it's above my average. It's just that after my rhythm score I've become a bit spoiled :P

I have a question. It seems to me that some of the photos went beyond the rules of basic editing...am I wrong?

You must:
create your entry from a single capture.
You may not:
use ANY editing tool to create new image area, objects or features (such as lens flare or motion) that didn’t already exist in your original capture.
distort or stretch your image in any way.

Eve - if you think any image has been made under other than the governing Rules, there's a spot at the bottom of each voting page, in blue, that says something like "Click here if you suspect a Rules Violation" and that leads you to a page where you can lay out your suspicions and forward to SC.

Geez Leo...

I can see exasperation. I can see the "there has to be a movement against me". I can even see the wanting to quit because of the low scores I have been given...but anger? You have gotten SIXES on many of your entries. On your profile page, the lowest of the shown entry pictures is a 5.7 AND you have ribboned. Who cares if it is a bronze...IT IS A RIBBON, MAN!!! I would give my left "don't kick me there!" point to have even a 5...and I would give them both to get a 5.7.

I have been a paid (film) photographer since 1979...or was I should say. I won awards as a photojournalist over the years but on this site...using a viewpoint of OTHER than photojournalism... I haven't surpassed a '5'. Talk about feeling defeated.

Your pictures are nice...some are great. But you need to also look at your competition when deciding where your pictures should rate. Contrary to some people's belief, voting on anything artistic reaches a level of the competition. If you are entered into a challenge where the level of greatness is low, chances are you will score high because, well, your's is probably better. On the other hand...if all of the entries are great, yours will need to be outstanding to outscore them.

Try entering the same photo on other sites. See how it ranks there. If your scores are a humongous amount higher on other sites...well maybe then you can talk to SC about it. But there are too many people voting here to rule it 'hanky panky'ish.

And there are some very good photographers on this site, and have been a member longer, that have not scored as high as you have and realize that public opinion is just that... someone else's opinion.

I am not trying to flame you but your posts take up almost have of the posts on this forum and they all say the same thing... negatively. Chill, dude! This is all for fun and gratification.... world peace is NOT gonna be accomplished with a blue ribbon.

We'll keep talking about this next week after the challenge. And I am ready for everything, don't want ribbon. If I am robbed, even if they take my dirty sock with hole in it, I call police and ask for justice. It's the principle, not ribbon.

I used a desk lamp for my light source. Just moved it around a lot trying to see what I liked best. Most of them didn't work. It is all about learning and experimenting. You will get better. Or try setting up near an open window for nice soft, side light.

I also used the kitchen light as I don't have a studio. I also don't have an external flash. But for a first submission, I should be happy. I only wish people commented more on how I can improve instead of a one liner.

I used a bathroom heat lamp for my lighting and diffused it with toilet paper. Yea, I'm classy.

I got my first DNMC comment for the challenge. I had a feeling that's why I was bombing. There's a lot of sticks up a lot of asses.

What I find odd in this thread regarding the "definition" of still life is the apparent disregard for the wide "open-door" definition of Still Life behind the three symbols in the challenge description: N/A

Apparently "not applicable" is not applicable to such a clearly understood and firmly fixed concept (historically, artistically, photographically) as "Still Life"

I wasn't even shooting for the basement on this challenge (as I have been known on occasion to do), but my entry keeps clomping down those steps into the cellar! Delightful ride down, BTW :)

I suppose my approach, along with 85% of the entries in this challenge (according to one of the posts above), are N/A to the true nature of Still Life.

For ease in making comments on all those "not-very-still-not-very-life like" photos which you are scoring below a 5 because they do not fit your notion of the nature of "still life", save yourself that fourth stroke. Instead of DNMC just type N/A

Just serves to prove how little credibility I give the general voter.

And I do take a bit of pride in the fact that some photos put voters off enough that they feel they must kill it.

Question: how do you guys vote when you feel the submission absolutely does NOT match the challenge? I ask because I'm not sure myself how to vote on all the non-still-life submissions for this challenge
