We just returned from our stay in the Davis Mountains of west Texas...I absolutely loved it there!!! Most people think of west Texas as flat desert land, but it was truly majestic. The weather was PERFECT and we had such a wonderful time. I almost hated to return home, but at the same time, it's good to be back.

I thought I'd share a few pictures...I only took about 1800 while I was gone. ;)

If someone could identify this critter, I'd be grateful...it tried to kill me, I think. ;)

We saw javelinas, deer, prairie dogs, all sorts of cattle, horses, and tons of different birds. We saw animal tracks and scat, and found out that where we had picnicked for lunch and dinner in the park was the favorite hangout for the family of mountain lions lurking about. We smelled where they had marked their territory, returning from a 3 mile hike...it didn't smell on the way up but it was sure strong on the way down. There was a bear sighting the day before we arrived. Yikes.

Anyway, it was a great trip and I'll have more pics to post soon. :)

Very nice images Laurie, I miss the mountains so much and can't wait to get back to the good ol' USA and see them Smokies again. I really like the butterfly one, sorry I'm not sure what kind of woman-eating bug that is but I'm sure someone here will find it for ya. I'll have to remember to check the profile for more of the 1800...dang that's a lot lol.

btw...Glad to see you and the boys are doing well, I'm sure you have your days but remember our thoughts are still with you all.

eta: it does kind of look like this woodborer

Thanks...it does look similar to the woodborer. Whatever it was, it sure was ugly and creepy.

I will comment on some for my old(young)friend. No need to return the favor if you don't want to. This reminds me I just need to get out and shoot.

Edit to add: Glad to see you joined the cool 30D crowd
