The WOW Factor.....an interesting "grading" issue that blows my mind. I mean sure, there are some images that grab you and "wow" you. And if those images meet the current challenge then all the more power to them. But I am at a loss to understand where critiquing an image on the basic fundamentals lost out to the WOW Factor. I am convinced that regardless of the topic, I should submit images of a small animal--say a monkey, reading the Wall Street Journal, sipping on a cup of java, dictating into a small dictation machine for his strenuous day of work at the zoo...That outta WOW someone!

If you can get a -----------small animal--say a monkey, reading the Wall Street Journal, sipping on a cup of java, dictating into a small dictation machine for his strenuous day of work at the zoo...-------I will give you a WOW. :)<lol>

Seriously I think I know just how you feel. Keep telling yourself that the following week you will make them all say WOW. Keep shooting, keep clicking, don't give up.

HAHAHAHAHHAA....just me venting! I, like I am quite sure, some of you seek to make the best images possible for the challenges. I know that I fail miserably sometimes...as last week challenge's submission proved (and it wasn't unexpected I suppose). But I come here (and love it here) because I learn from other (and sometimes I think--the best) photographers this site has to offer. To state that an image lacks a "wow" element, while understandable to me, gets me no closer to taking techincally sound images. That's my greater interest...and thankfully to some fabulous people who I have never had the pleasure of meeting who take the time to critique my images, I have learned. So a shutter bug I shall continue to be. Well enough said on the topic. I gotta go earn a living.

WOW factor is a term i like to use when describing a photo. The WOW factor is different for each individual. When an image makes me say 'wow', then I usually consider it to be a very strong image.

I liked the photo -- good concept for journalism -- and gave it a high score. Perhaps a more in-depth critique from someone with experience would help you technically.

WOW only occurs occasionally in any set of photos - perhaps one time at best.

Monkeys always get a WOW out of me, so feel free to submit that :)
