What would you vote it? How would you improve it? It did do well where I entered it, but I am not sure why.... For me it lacks ..... alot.

I am trying to pick apart the images I have and figure out what I am doing that I shouldnt and what I'm not doing that I should.....

I shoot another off road race tomorrow and hoping I'll learn something before then :)

Depends on the challenge, but I'd start around 6. For me, that's a good shot well-processed but without much zing. But if it was particularly apt in the challenge, I'd bump it a point or two.

But then, I'm not as critical of technical perfection as many others seem to be.

I would recommend cropping tighter on the top, though, and if you have the image area over on the right, change the crop so you don't cut off the tips of the petals over there.

A 6? I feel more trollish than ever. I would vote it a 4 tops. I would improve it by turning the sharpening way down, changing the composition so the big round bit itsn't dead center like that, increase the contrast so there's some black in the mix there, and trying to salvage some detail in the blown out petals if possible.

try going back to the original.

Try splitting the B&W into three layers with each channel represented in one layer. (one layer each for red channel, green channel and blue channel)

Use opacities to tune it. try to get the sky a fair bit darker.

Control the brightness of the blown out portions as required as mentioned by routerguy.

Then use layer masks to help take that sky a fair bit darker and bring up the contrast a bit more. This will help you to get more punch without pushing the image to oversharpening if you are having trouble with that.

Have to agree with just about everything routerguy stated. But the first thing that I see (IMO) is that it is way too sharp.

Obviously just a matter of opinian but, I have to disagree, I like it as is...if I look to the sky or to something like this that is very light to begin with, if the sun is backlighting it, it's going to be a bit blown out in real life...reality is okay for me...Just my opinian...

Shrug. Your average vote given is more than 1.5 below mine, which says to me you're looking for something much more ... something than I do, so it's no surprise you have a lower opinion of the shot.

So there you have it! A 4, 6 and 8. Throw in the ever-present troll vote along with the "I love any picture of a flower" 10 and you got a decent bell curve.

Me, I give it a DNMC. :P

Im more with jack on this one. I gave it a 7. There is some interest with the heart in the center which should be the story. It just doesn't pop like it should. central comp and sharpening works ok for me.
A little dodge and burn just might change everything here.
