Here is an incredible image shot by John McColgan. This awesome picture was taken in the Bitterroot National Forest in Montana on August 6 by a fire behavior analyst from Fairbanks, Alaska, with a Digital camera.

Since he was working while he took the picture, he cannot sell or profit from it, so he should at least be recognized as the photographer
of this once-in-a-lifetime shot.

I received it as an attachment in an email from a friend who wanted to share this incredible image with me. So, I thought that I would share it with the DPC community. What do you think of it? Is it a "10"?

Hmmmm - off-topic. Gets a 1 from me. (just kidding - it's marvelous! definitely a 10).

Amazing.

It's definately one to show all the friends and guests after dinner for years to come...

I first received this image in an e-mail at least two years ago. It seems to be making the rounds again. I have no idea what the source of the image really is. Cool image anyway.

Awesome image. Very powerfull. Pretty sad though. Do you think Bambi made it?

People keep posting that image on photosig as their own work. (and consequently been given the boot) I've seen it at least twice there. It's a really cool shot. ~Heather~

Of course Bambi made it and you cant tell me otherwise (sticks fingers in ears) la la la I cant hear you!

On a more serious note, that is a really neat image, and the website had interesting information about it too. If nothing else, it's circulation around the internet is making it famous!

It kinda reminds me of 'Smoke Jumper' by Nicholas Evans...

I had no idea of the history of this forest fire image, I just liked it a lot, like so many others obviously have too. The web site was very interesting, thanks for the link Gary.

You always need to be a bit skeptical of stuff off of the web or sent in emails, as it can come back and bite you later as Heather pointed out concerning cheaters at Photsig. No one would ever believe that I took it anyway, as my work pretty much sucks and I fear fire more than Bambi.(LOL) But, I was worried that this forest fire picture was a Photoshop doctored image and that I might just be helping perpetuate the thing.

Here is one that I know is absolutely doctored, but it still makes me laugh every time I see it, it must be the pilot in me?

I think I saw the fire photo a long time before August 6th on another site. Is the date correct?

The 737? photo is terrible! Terribly funny, that is! What an awful sense of humour we both have, Morgan.

The forest picture is nice, but isn't the exposure a little burned out on the top half?

Sorry, no one else said it so I had to :)

More dodging, less burning...
