I've been using PSP for years now, and I've recently been wanting to use a High-Pass filter, but I can't find one! I'm sure I've used it in the past, but I can't find it now. I'm using v9. Does anyone know if the later versions have one, or how to achieve it in v9? Thanks!

Not sure what a high-pass filter does, but are you referring to the clarify feature? In PSP9, it's under adjust->brightness contrast-> clarify. I would make a duplicate layer and then apply it.

In PSP XI it's Adjust > Sharpen > High Pass

Check your local shops for deals on Corel PSP Photo XI, Last weekend it was 15 bucks after rebate at Frys. It sold out rather quickly but I have seen other deals around. PSPXI is a rocking program.

Hmm, not quite sure if this is what I'm after.

The result I want is a complete High pass, so if you have an image half black, half white, and you high-pass filter it, it will go completely mid-grey, with a white and black line along the division. Kind of like the emboss filter, but not quite.

I don't want any low frequencies to get through at all. I don't know, maybe this is a bizarre thing to want to do. :) I want to use it as a soft-light filter to burn in around small details without affecting overall contrast. Any ideas?

I've seen that in a plug-in somewhere... Yup highpass/desat in PSP done heavily produces almost a "Dragonized" effect.

Do you have an example of the direction you are headed?

Look in effects filters>edge effects. Try find all. There is a high pass filter in there, but the find all might be what you are talking about.

I think you may need to combine effects to achieve what you want. Use the find all edge effect that pcody mentioned and then use the emboss effect on the same layer.

Yes, that's pretty much the effect I'm trying to achieve. I've only seen the Draganiser plugin for PhotoShop, not for PSP. :( I've got the tone-mapping effect, which looks good when applied lightly, but I'm still looking for a better way to achieve the detail enhancement than using USM or lots of laborious detail burning.

I think what you are looking for is the Clarify filter under the Contrast/Brightness area

I'm not sure what clarify is actually doing. It's an interesting effect, and I'll certainly look into it more, but it's not doing what I'm looking for. :(

PSPX and PSPXI both have the High Pass Sharpen that you are looking for. I am not sure what the dragonizer effect does but having tried the highpass/desat thing in PSPX, the closest I can come in PSP9 is to make a duplicate layer and then on that layer use clarify at 5, desat to -100, black levels adjusted to desired amount of black added. You can then change the layer to be overlay or soft light and alter opacity to change the effect.

Or you could upgrade to the newer version or download a trial version and see if it does what you want... :)
