What if your vote/score was known to the photographer during challenges? I'm just curious if it would change voting habits. Do you think it would |

doesn't change mine. In fact I have started with the sea challenge putting exactly what I did vote and will continue to do so on eevery challenge I vote on.

There would be a few people at first that would call people out in the forums and write nasty PMs, but it would soon settle as they got shunned by more and more people. So, nah, no can of worms really.
Would it change the way I vote? Not at all.

Wouldn't change the way I vote. I'd still leave comments like "Awesome! A definite Ten!" but then they would see that I gave them a 3 and my jig would be up. :) j/k - I don't have a jig.
The can of worms is talking about changing the system, not the change itself. It's that way with everything. |

I can tell you right now that I never give out a vote under five, if I think a picture deserves a lower vote or does not meet the challenge I just skip it.
I know that I'm always happy to get anything five or above. |

That way you help the picture to average higher. The full scale is there for a reason, use it. Or are you afraid that your average vote given statistic will drop?
Edit; After looking at the average I think the never under five comment is BS.[/quote]

Would have been BS the first half year I was a user and possibly for a while after I was a member, since that time when I do vote it isn't under a five and no I'm not afraid to use the full scale I just don't like to.
I'm in no position to say that anyones work deserves a 1 and most shots that I see posted don't deserve anything below a five. |

If I think it is dnmc, I give 1s or 2s with equal ease as I give 9 or 10s. And why not give dnmc photos 1 when lot of photographers spend time and effort meeting challenge. When the scale of 1-10 is given why not we should use it. |

I disagree that there are very few photos posted that deserve less than a score of 5; indeed, with the benefit of hindsight, I have enetered several myself. |

Back to the original subject (which was not fordmanf1's voting patterns):
I suspect the same thing would happen as with comments: The recipients of low votes would fire off nasty PM's to those who cast the votes, and eventually people would get tired of it and stop voting.

Avg Vote Cast: 6.3995
That's my Average vote cast. I rarely vote lower than a 4. I think if someone has taken the time and shown the courage to enter the challenge, they should get a 4 for their efforts. There are only very specific reasons I'll vote lower than 4, and I've said them in other threads. I went for a couple of challenges giving all 10's to try and balance out trolls, but then somebody told me that if you vote all the same those votes get thrown out.

I imagine I would, that's the reason I give so many fewer comments now. |

For me, that's a no-brainer. I would not vote at all.
I really do like that private ballot box and while I do
occasionally tell the image maker what my vote/score is,
it's usually because it's a compliment. |

Uhm, sure you can use my pic. :P
But Gary did it better HAHAHAHAAAAA
I don't care if my voting is public or not. I vote fairly and consistently. That's all that matters to me.

I tried this experiment one time before and was hammered for it by the photographers and the SC...
I would leave the score I gave the photo in the comment box... usually without a comment.
It wasn't appreciated.
