It seems that there are quite a few photos in the land challenge that don't have any land. Buildings, cars, sunsets, plants, bugs, whatever......but not land. Even quite a few shots of water, which seemed strange, because there actually was a water challenge.

I found myself giving some photos that I would have rated lower a higher score just for having a shot of actual land. Am I being too exact? Should I be more lenient (sp?), or did other voters find this also to be true?

All the things that you mentioned are things on land. Not the water tho but its easy to submit for the wrong challenge ya know.

Just because it may be "on land", does NOT make it a "landscape shot".
The description seems clear enough to me.

Yes a landscape inland. Seems clear to me too only we differ in opinions. Clear does not mean interpretations are going to be aligned. The original post sounds like there should be actual land in the shot. Not sure that the lack of this constitutes a DNMC.

Don't know about anyone else, but I read this in a dictionary and it does seem relatively clear to me...

1. a section or expanse of rural scenery, usually extensive, that can be seen from a single viewpoint.

2. a picture representing natural inland or coastal scenery.

When one factors in the challenge description, I do truly believe that some things may not meet the established criteria and as such might be penalized by the voters.

Well there's land underneath all bodies of water so technically water would meet your description. :P

Some people are going to score it low if there's water in a 'land' challenge, and land in a 'sea' challenge. IMO that's being harsh, but that's just MY opinion. If the composition is mainly of the challenge they submitted it to, I'll score it appropriately and not DNMC the picture. I think if you're going to be TOO exact, eventually people are going to start asking for longer more complex definitions of what is OK and what's NOT so that they don't get DNMC or lower scores...

I dunno...there are two challenges exclusive of each other. It was stated pretty clearly what was expected too. I personally haven't seen too many that were DNMC and the ones that were weren't landscapes, seascapes or anything of the like.

Just my opinion however.

I'd assume that anything ON land, buildings, roads, mountains, etc...would be considered LAND and not DNMC...while seas are ON beds of land, I would assume that the sea challenge means that the majority of the picture is sea, right? And by sea do we mean salty water?

While I don't know what my exact score is per user, I have a feeling some are going super low because they think it's a DNMC and some are scoring high because they aren't being so picky about what land is (As in there doesn't necessarily have to be DIRT with MOUNTAINS to be considered LAND...and appreciate the composition and title that explains it.

On top is nothing, then there is gas, below gas is salty water with some land peaking out, then there is land, than below land is some melted iron with some other stuff, then below it is some solid iron, and below this BIG HUGE piece of iron, is a bigger huger turtle. And then are some more turtles.

Wait, I got it wrong: on top there are some crystal spheres, and then some gas, and below it, well, you know the drill.
