I never thought about it until now but I've only seen dogs bury bones in cartoons. I've never seen or heard of it in real life.

I have a Golden Retriever and he's about 3 years old. I bought him a couple of braided chew things the other day. I went out later and saw him go get it from near the fenceline and thought wow he must have buried it. I just saw him today go get it when I came out and then walk around stud like with it in his mouth before walking along the fenceline and he kept looking back at me so I watched secretly and saw him dig a hole, put the thing in it and actually use his nose to put the dirt on it and bury it.

Have you ever actually seen or heard of it in real life? Just thought it was cool. He's so darned proud of his chew thing. You can see it just by the way he walks when he's got it.

Yes, I have seen dogs do this before. I use to have a daschund that buried things outdoors all the time. He would also try to bury things in the house. Found rawhide chews stuffed in under the cushions of the couch, stuffed into boots, in the laundry basket. The best was when he would put the chew in a corner and try to push the shag carpet over the top with his nose. He would do these things only when he thought no one was looking.

lol that's funny. Mine is only an outside dog but, I suppose if he were inside he might do the same. I've just never seen it before.

I just got an 8 week old lab puppy and I can't wait to see what she'll do. :)

I have a Black Lab about 1 yr. old. She buries chewies, my grandkids toys, etc. She was digging and burying something yesterday and cut her nose! I've only had her for a couple months and I just love her. Whenever we go somewhere, she takes all our shoes and carries them out in the livingroom. She doesn't chew them up, it just looks like there was a party while we were gone! Here are a couple pictures of her.

Yup, he loves it. I had a beagle when I was a kid. There were packages of food that looked like hamburgers for dogs. He'd take those and never eat them outright. He'd bury them and dig them up a few days later. They'd be full of ants and stuff and he looked like I look when eating Butter Pecan icecream.
He wouldn't eat them without ants and bugs on them!

i used to have a little dog that would do the same thing with Tic-Tacs breath mints...lol. every corner of the house had a little pile of Tic-Tacs in it. still makes me smile to think of it. :)

Our dog is crazy about buring her treats. We give her pig ears every once in awhile but don't let her outside with it. So when she doesn't want to chew on it anymore (she usually only does at bed time so we get to enjoy in the smell and sound lol) she hides it in the house. She will actually bury it under clothing, pillows, blankets, whatever. One time I actually caught her going behind a chair in the bedroom to put her treat in the corner. If she realizes or thinks you've seen her hide it she will actually move it somewhere else.

There have been times when I think she has forgetten where she has put it because she'll go a good week or two not touching it then all of a sudden has it again. It's also real fun when you find it and move it to a new location lol. She'll also take bits of her food out of her bowl and saves them for later after she eats all the others.

My dog (a Jack Russell) doesn't really bury stuff outside, but she digs holes. She'll 'dig a hole' in a pile of clothes or the blankets to lie down in though. And she also will go in the forest behind out house and dig stuff up. She's found several old (really old) tennis balls, chew toys, and bones that were buried.

I don't let my dog

take his bones outside, but when I give him a new one he tries to bury it in his bed and gets really frustrated when he can't dig through the cover. It's very cute.

My friend has a beagle that takes rawhide bones around the house, scratches at the carpet (as if digging a hole), places the bone in the "hole", and smoothes out the air with his nose (as if pushing the mound of dirt back ontop of the burried bone). It is very amusing to watch, but he won't do it if anyone is watching him closely or if another dog comes around. Then he will walk past the "buried bone" (that is sitting in plain site on the floor) as if it is buried. He won't even look at it until he "digs" it up. It is hilarious! And it is fun finding bones "buried" all around the house after he comes over to play.

my dog has buried bones all over the high school in our village in botswana. we used to go to many braiis (barbeques) and he'd get all the bones, run off to other gardens, and bury them. now we live on the other side of the earth, i wonder if he thinks about them...

When I was young we had a Dalmation who used to try and bury his bones under the rug, he would use his nose to try and move the rug to cover his bone. He also used to bury them in the garden. Sometimes his nose was pretty raw!
