As I mentioned in a previous thread my Canon 300D became damaged after it had an accident in my kitchen! I had the 50mm f1.8 mk2 Lens attached at the time. That was beyond repair but the body seemed ok except for the battery compartment and one of the lens contact pins which was pushed in. I tried another lens but it would not fire and had the error 99. Without a lens it fired ok. Well I checked our house contents insurance and it was covered. Rang the insurance company on Monday 2nd July and they took my details, confirmed it was covered as repair or replacement. They use Jessops photographic stores for this. They fax Jessops and then I wait for Jessops to contact me. This they did on Friday 6th July. They told me it was a straight repalcement so I could have the 400D + 50mm f1.8 - OR I could use the value of the vouchers for anything in their store! So this morning I received the vouchers in the post rang the local store to see if they had a 30D in stock - yes! I reserved it and collected it from the store about an 1 hour later. I had to pay a £100 pounds excess on the insurance. So I am now in possession of a 30D with kit lens for £190 ! Yes I am a happy chappy !

Not having ever claimed on insurance before I thought it might be a long drawn out afair. Not so! Both my insurers - Direct Line and Jessops have been wonderful, I could not wish for a better service!
They did not even want to look at the 300D (which I bought in November 2003)

Just wanted to share!

Excellent story... Congrats!

btw, if the 300D is still yours to dispose of, would you consider selling it for parts?

Great news, Mike on the 30D. That is the beauty of house contents insurance. I haven't used mine yet, but it is a condition of taking out a policy that I have cover for personal equipment accidental damage, theft or loss. It only costs a few pounds more each year, but it is good knowing your camera and lenses are covered.

Jessops are pretty good also, I buy my cameras from them, they used to match online prices, but will usually throw in some extras to get you buy from them.

Look forward to seeing the results from the 30D.

Nice to hear a good story regarding insurance..

Enjoy your new camera Mike.

Mark.

PS, you had the pro-shots back from your daughters wedding yet?

Thanks Guys. Just playing about with it at the moment, get things how I want them re settings etc. I had my 300D set up just right (for me) which took a while. Now I have to start again with this! What I really like is the continuous shooting mode - compared to the 300D this thing flies!

The pro photos of the wedding are about but due to my daughter and all her family having caught an evil virus we have not seen them since we came back of holiday. Its nearly 3 weeks since I saw them all and I am desperate to see them again. However Pam has only just recovered from illness so dont want her coming down with sickness/diarrhea,nor me for that matter! So I hope they will be down Wednesday.

As for the 300D my son is going to attempt to fix it so he can use it, he is pretty good at this sort of thing so it may be working again soon.

Way cool, Mike. I also recently went from 300D to 30D and even though it's one tenth the model number, it's ten times the camera. :)
