I'm in the market for a macro lens. Has anyone used one of these, and if so, what did you think of the lens?
Also, any other macro lens suggestions for a Nikon would be welcome. |

Yup, I've used a friends and if I had the disposable income I'd own one right now. Be aware it is a heavy lens. It will live best on a tripod. The only difference between the non-VR model that I'm aware of is the new micro coating. I've used both a bit and couldn't tell any difference but that may be due the short time I had to use the VR model. I wish Nikon would make it available without the VR because for macro work it is basically useless. The instructions that come with the lens will warn about this. I've heard people say it doesn't AF well when used macro. Well duh, no lens AFs well when used macro. So if you really want this focal length and want to save a buck I would recommend the Sigma 105 macro as several people did in the other referenced thread. I run a Sigma 180mm macro and can attest to it's quality. Good luck.
