Right now I have 2 loads a day. It does give me an excuse to come down and play on the computer and rant while I am doing the hard chore. :) I think I hear them coming down the stairs now. Got to go. lol |

Starting a the bottom and then hitting the favorites is a good idea John and Swash. I think I'll do that too. I think a paragraph is too much. Be short and sweet and tell them what you think. I've also started leaving my vote and name on most of the ones I comment on.
Another point is if you don't have a lot of time, do 10 or 20 every now and then and it won't take up a large block of time. Over the week you can get a lot of comments done that way. I've even been thanking all of those that commented on mine, though now I'm starting to do a general thank you in the results comments.

The chat room is a good place to go. there is a lot of photo discussion there regularly... [/i]
chat room? where?
as for comments, I try leave as many as I can... the more I leave, the more I will eventually get in return... what goes around comes around right? And, I find it hard to believe anyone could be selfish enough to say that they are only going to leave as many as they get... I think someone needs a hug.. :o)

I am being selfish, It is about time I think of myself . :)I go thru life trying go please people, but it will come to a halt in here, because I have given lots of comments every week and nothing in return. My comments get less and less. hmmm...I am planning on voting on more then what I get, twice the amount that I get. Johns method is probably going to work out great. And I am guessing that less people will give once that starts up. If I have time I might comment on more. Most of my comments arent very helpful anyway, I do want to say that I leave my name when I do comment and anyone can feel free to email me. I don't mind. Good luck everyone in the challenge.

Blini, Latkes, sour cream & applesauce. Or those big German pancakes with lemon juice & powdered sugar...arghh, 47 years of pancake-making... |

I haven't had a crepe for...well..like forever. Do you have a good recipe? |

I think the recipe in any reputable book (e.g Joy of Cooking) will work. The trick is more in the pan, the temperature, and the technique - in this case, I'm not an expert!

The General is correct. With a French wife, and having lived seven years in the south of France, I can confirm a GOOD crepe pan is a worthwhile investment. The good news is that even the imperfect crepes can be delicious. Bon Apetit. |

Latke is Yiddish for potato pancake. Bring some over anytime...as Grandpa in Rugrats says "...we Jews have survived despite our traditional foods!" |

Hey!.... I've left 180 comments, and received only 50. Y'all owe me big time! Oh yeah, I didn't enter this week. Well maybe next week.
(It's a shame when you start trying to take good photos... so much more work, so much less output.)
Though I do agree that it is nice to receive admiring comments or constructive criticism. Though truth be told, the admiring comments are preferable. I do try to comment on anything I rate 9 or 10 and anything that gets a 1 or 2. Then I add comments to ones where I felt that I had a worthwhile observation. |

I'll add my perspective to this discussion. I have just joined and have voted on the Photojournalism challenge, but I have only commented on a few of the entries, as I don't feel qualified to pass judgement on the work of others (as you will probably be able to tell from my entry in the Blue challenge). Maybe when I have been here a while this will change, but until then don't expect too many comments from me.

welcome paynekj!!! and there are "newbies" every week... so I think you are not alone in this. I, for one, felt the same as you at first. Now that it has been 7 months -- (wowee!) -- I am feeling that I can make a more practical comment... and I think this will only continue to improve with practice... which means studying photos and making comments.. then comparing your analysis to others when the challenge is done. It is great to see when you are on the "same page" as someone else.. Mmmm.. pie is almost ready! (gobble gobble)..
