I've just finished fixing up some of my prints for sale and I was wondering if some of you kind and helpful folks could take a look at them and makes some suggestions.

I don't really need to know which ones are your favorite or least favorite. If you really like something, buy it! I'm having a temporary sale :)
If you don't like it, that's fine, but I probablly like it since I made it a print and plan on printing most of them myself for various reasons.
However, if something strikes you as unbearably bad and embarassing, please let me know. No need to be gentle about it, tell me it's crap and I'll take it down.

Things I really would like to know are more geared toward the framing and print preparation process. Are there particular borders or tag lines that you like or dislike? Would you prefer if I set up my prints all in a similar way so that they looked better as a group, if so, how. Do you have any suggestions in terms of marketability for certain images?

BTW, my most popular challenge photo to date, Almost Gone, is temporarily unavailable as a print as I am fixing it up based on some helpful advice I received from another DPCer. Thanks David!

My Prints

I really like a couple of your prints. Sifaka and Fire and Ice are both on my wishlist.

I do think that the storefront would look better if the prints were all uniform with the same border, and the same aspect ratio where possible. This doesnt matter so much when you're looking at an individual print, but when you're looking at all of them, it doesnt seem to fit. Ones that stand out most to me are 'If Bluffing Jump' because of the large white feathered border, and also a couple of the colour ones without a border. The b&w seem to look alrite as they are.

After a month or 2 on dpcprints, I decided to go back and redo all of my prints with a simple quarter inch black border (for 8x10). I think this makes them all look better together, and it's also the standard matting size, so setzler told me :) And I keep the font and position of the text the same in each print too. I also try to use 8x10 where possible, as this makes all the prints look more tidy on the storefront imo. Also 8x10 is the most commom frame size I've seen around shops in this area.

Thanks alot Konador!

That was exactly the type of response I was looking for. I had the same response when looking at the storefront as a whole. It just seemed messy and unprofessional. Most of the prints that don't really fit are ones I put up and framed differently for my own use or for people I know. I think I'll take that advice about the quarter inch border. I have very little knowlege about framing so all of this information is a big help to me. Thanks again.

They're a lot easier to add than trying to do fancy borders as well I found :) Just make your original crop at 7.5x9.5 aspect ratio, then change the size to exactly 7.5x9.5, without resampling. Then you just change canvas size to 8x10 and its a perfect border :) No need to work out any maths or anything, which is great! Then you can resample to get to the higher sizes you want.

I'm not sure what size borders mattes for other aspect ratios are, but I still use a quarter inch border, just to look uniform, so for 8x12 photos I crop originally at 7.5x11.5, etc etc.

Sounds like a good plan. I'll be doing my borders like that in the future. Anyone else got any opinions or suggestions?
