Wow! I just had to share a photo that my buddy Dave Nitsche showed me today.

Tiger

He used his Canon 1D and a 300mm F4 L lens. Sweeeeeeeeeeeeet. Now that is inspiring. Great color, simple composition, and shaprness. Hats off.

Having just spent a few hours at the zoo trying to capture a "wild" creature and failing, I can't believe this shot! Where was it taken, do you know? The look on the cat is just purrrfect!

Very nice picture, but even by my standards I think the pic is a bit too over-postprocessed. I'd like to see it with more natural colours and less sharpening.

Awesome shot! I think it's just about perfect but I can see Bobsters point about the sharpness. It seems like it has been a bit oversharpened in PS or something. It's hardely noticeable but it's there, especially in the fur on the tigers sides. It's prob. only USM for making it small for the web anyway, so it doesn't matter. The colors, however, even if they are processed, I think look terrific. The tiger's pose, the composition, and the focus are super. I have no idea how the lighting was so good at the zoo!

Not very often you open a thread to find it is about you and the images you have taken. Thanks Jacko for putting this hear. Like anyone else I am very proud of the images I have taken. I recently figured out that it has to mean something to me to mean something to anyone else...

The Sharpness issue... Actually very little USM applied. It actually isn't USM either, it is more edge sharpening than full USM. Still might have applied too much. I looked at the images on a regular CRT and they look fine, on a flat screen they really sharp. Printed they look really smooth.

I shot all of these with the 1D at Matrix level 3 which is sort of a Velvia color space clone. Reminds me a lot of my D30 color and REALLY vibrant out of camera. This image was auto contrasted and the Adobe profile applied, that is it. I love it this vibrant but fully understand it isn't everyone's cup O' tea... I will admit to a bunch of dodging and burning on the tiger, mostly in the background though. The leopard is almost directly out of camera...

Arrived at the zoo at Opening (8AM) and ran for the light... The St. Louis Zoo is a joy and they treat their animals so well...

Once again, thanks all. This has really made my day...

Dave
