I need to add an update to this. For the program above to work, you have to make sure to download and install the patch that fixes the windows vulnerability first. Otherwise the worm just keeps reinfecting you.

You get the patch here:

Indeed, it is very unstable :P

If you're interested in the aftermath heres a few stories (c/o Slashdot):

My favourite quote, from the second story, "The infected computers are expected to begin acting like zombies Saturday".
Graaaaah.

I didn't hear about the worm until yesterday. Luckily I was using ZoneAlarm and it blocked everything (I checked my log and found tons of blocked TCP port 135).

This may have already been posted, but uh....

here is a standalone removal utility for this work and about 26 other viruses/trojans/etc.. from McAfee called Stinger. Scans your harddrive! Worked great for me!

My firewall has taken over 1000 hits on port 135 already today.

How do you check this?

I got infected a couple of days ago. I didnt know what it was so I decided to call HP today. They were very helpful and hopefully i got rid of the worm. I didnt have a firewall, I do now. I think I've learned my lesson. I also renew my subscription to my anti virus software and updated it.

This may have already been posted, but this nasty worm cause the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration (our equivalent of the DMV) to shut down for a day a couple of days ago and it has also government computers in DC.

Everyone should use a software firewall. Get ZoneAlarm and you'll never have problems like this. I have not one attempt to access my system in my ZA log because my computer is "invisible" to the Internet. The worm doesn't even know I exist. :)
